Yeah it was meI think someone hit on it earlier. It could have been you, can't remember. I know you also referenced PSR in a different thread.
The financial year-end is 30 June. So knowing it is a 3 year rolling calculation, I guess some clubs want to get money spent before 30 June. Others will push it beyond 30 June.
Never at any point in his life was Son a better finisher than Messi. That kills the idea of him being the best finisher in the world stoke dead.
I think this phenomenon exists because we weren't winning anything so the fans needed to latch on to something semi tangible and claiming X player is the best at something is both tangible but also largely unprovable and that's why it happens.
Son was certainly an elite finisher, that's not even up for debate to me. He just wasn't the best finisher in the world. I watched a LOT of football in that era and the range and quality of finishes from Messi is just not something Son had, as great as he was.For clarity (I'm not arguing the point)
- Son outperformed his xG by a margin that was clear of everyone else in Europe for several years (including Kane, Lewa, etc.)
- The distribution (two footedness) of his goals were right up there as well.
The guy was an elite level finisher, was he the absolutely best? no, but he was quite close.
Son, unfortunately like Kane (until he moved) will have his numbers skewed by not playing for an elite side, an old (not prime) Kane has scored 62 goals in 63 league games for Bayern (that is Messi/Ronaldo output), a prime Kane scored 213 in 317 for Spurs. Put prime Son in the Liverpool or City sides of last 7 years, no one would be asking if he's an elite finisher ..
It's a bit unfair to compare anyone to messi. He is arguably one of the best players to ever play the game.Son was certainly an elite finisher, that's not even up for debate to me. Maradona would disagreeHe IS the best player ever.
He can disagree all he likes, Messi is the superior player imo.Maradona would disagree
Maybe that's Chelsea's next move...start taking advantage of time zones.I guess some clubs want to get money spent before 30 June. Others will push it beyond 30 June.
Weird thing is why hasn’t Zubamendi been confirmed… deal was done in January wasn’t it
I’m sure it’s the formerMaybe for PSR reasons it goes through in July but you'd think they could confirm the transfer in advance or maybe not as the window is already open?
They'll start using the Thai calendar soon!Maybe that's Chelsea's next move...start taking advantage of time zones.
I know something......we have another 3 major coup teenagers coming in. Heard it here first.
All for footballing reasons.Be careful, that could come across a bit Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew whatsappy
Don’t sweat itAll for footballing reasons.
What I would say that is in Poch's early days we only really had one superstar - Lloris. We were concerned about him flying the nest and heading to one of the bigger European clubs. That was even confirmed in his autobiography as he was frustrated in his early days. Then we got to about 2017 and we had a team full of superstars. Every one of them was a big name and would have been sought after by other clubs.
Not sure I really care about whether our current or previous lot were world class or best in England/Europe/World etc. What I am wondering is whether we can replicate the 2015-2017 period and watch this current squad evolve into a team of superstars. Obviously with additions like we did with Toby, Big Vic, Dele and Sonny. In Poch's case, it only really took 2-3 years and then we were on the decline again even to the CL final when guys like Walker and Dembele had left, Big Vic was permanently crocked and Winks and Sissoko were the midfield duo.
I think the scouting networks at all the big clubs are so sophisticated now that it's even harder to pickup a Ronaldo or Messi as a teenager. Every club is on these players and the chances of us getting a Modric get harder.
Saying that, I am optimistic about our squad. It has so much potential.
