I thought it was excellent too, though I didn’t see the game in full so not sure how accurate a reflection the highlights were. What I took from it is that we’re missing a couple of players to enable us to beat the press consistently (and I would say midfield are most culpable here). Also the comparison with Ederson who has the ability to go long with pinpoint accuracy keeps the opposition honest, something we don’t do.

I’ve seen a bit of “Ange Out” around the internet in the last 24 hours and that’s mad stuff. All things being equal, we should probably finish 6th or thereabouts given the resources we have. So he’s ahead of that, in his first year, having inherited a mess, having changed the style of play.

You can’t sack, or want to sack, someone who has done that. That’s insane talk. The recent form is worrying and the manager is not above criticism but he’s more than earned the right to have next season and beyond.

I don't remember such an article as Liverpool got knocked out of the EL and the title race as their manager and star player battled on the side line.
Do you think if we had won yesterday the article would have switched the names to villa, lost at home, knocked out of EL by team from a "pub league", no I don't think so either.
Is there any mention of the dodgy ref in the arsenal game?
That we have several regulars out?
No.

The timescale is much quicker but there is a very definite comparison to Poch here, media loved him until they realised he may upset the traditional "big" clubs.
Suspect howe and emeri will get it at some point if they kick on.

Many of those angry probably had us down as finishing outside the euro places, including the media "experts", now we have all but secured a place it's a catastrophe and he should be sacked.

He's earned the right to start next season. But if we keep losing, by october he'll be gone.

It's very pointed in places.
I don't even mind that because as you say some of it is accurate. My beef is where is same article for utd (yeah it's mcnulty so no chance), Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Liverpool (everything to play for three weeks ago, car crash), have any of them comparatively done any better than us?

You think i want it? I'm just stating facts. If this form follows into next season he'll be gone.

It's just the way it is.

I really hope we turn it around and play how we did at the beginning of the season. But if we don't he'll be sacked.

United have had a lot of brick thrown at them this season through the media. It's nothing more than a writer given a fairly accurate opinion.

At the start of the season, we were being written about in very glowing terms. If I was an opposition fan, I'd have found it a bit premature and nauseating to be honest.

You have to take the rough with the smooth.

Why does it have to be that way? If we as fans all accept this is a multi year thing and keep that atmosphere amongst ourselves, he will get the time.

From a fan point of view we accept this brick so are an easy target, we almost revel in it. Woe is us.
Imagine Liverpool fans if this article was about klopp?

I agree with you but if we start next season like we're finishing this, he will be under pressure. There is a lot of talk of Arteta and Klopp at the moment. Arteta won the cup in year 1 and was fortunate that covid happened and they were brick in front of empty stadiums.

Klopp got to two finals in year one and finished 4th in year two.

If this form continues until October, the narrative will be "had a good start but has been poor for 12 months now".

It might feel wrong, it might feel a bit unfair but that's the price on the ticket.

Why though? The fans at the stadium gave the team a standing ovation after we lost 4-1 to Chelsea. Why can’t we all have the same sort of perspective? We’re not becoming one of the top 3 teams within 16 months for Christ sake.

The Chelsea game was an anomaly. We had 2 players sent off, played in a surprising and aggressive way despite that and could have snatched a result. And we were top of the table or second at the time.

If this form continues into next season, we'll be about 10th. No one really expects top 3. But they do expect to be challenging for top 5 or 6. If we're mid table and losing games, I'm not sure Ange has enough credit in the bank to withstand that.

Personally, I'd still keep him in those circumstances but history tells me fans and the chairman won't see it that way.

And the reason will be simple. Ange won't have done enough to convince them that his way will work. A purple patch at the start of this season followed by 12 months of average to poor results won't be good enough for him to keep his job IMO.
 
Context is everything. Whilst I understand some of the reactionary negativety towards Ange just look at the 4 games we've just lost.

3 very tough away games at grounds where we traditionally lose and 1 home game against the league leaders. If these 4 games and results were mixed throughout the season with other wins, draws and losses nobody would be losing their brick over it, regardless of the performance level. It's just that 4 in a row sounds terrible.

So, I for one am quite relaxed about it, as ive been all season. Mind you, if we get tonked by Burnley....
