Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I think today was the first time I've heard Ange criticise a referee in a post match interview.
Reminds me of Redknapp talking about Wenger:
We can all remember when Arsène first came to England [in 1996 to manage Arsenal] – I remember reading articles saying he was like a professor watching the game and all the other nutters were jumping up and down, shouting and screaming. And that he wasn't like these idiots, that he's studying every move that's going on on the pitch like chess.

"[In 2003-04] they never lost a game all season so it was OK. I could've sat there with a cigar. But suddenly when you start losing a few games it all changes, doesn't it? Now he's joined the nutters. In fact he's one of the key nutters."

What we can’t do is carry a player
Anyone who isn’t playing at 100% hinders us
We have seen in the last 3 games that bentacur isn’t up to speed currently, but what’s the alternative?
Maddison needs the games to get match fit which again is an issue
These games are won and lost in midfield and the last 3 games we have okayed we have had real issues in those roles
Yes, we really struggle when some of our players are not fully at it.
I saw a Tweet earlier saying Porro had zero tackles, zero interceptions, zero key passes, few touches etc. I didn't notice during the game tbh.
Likewise it said our wingers did very little.
It certainly felt like some of our players were doing too much work, and some of our players were not involved enough, so the balance was wrong somehow. Felt inevitable that Everton would score with their 30th freekick in a row.

For me it was Bentacur again who struggled and so much goes through his role in the team

The centre backs and full backs were fine

I didn't see all the game but while we are not at full "this season" strength (biss, sonny, Sarr), not to mention still some way short of Ange's perfect squad, unless everyone picked shows up we are going to have a bigger fight on our hands.

The fluid overwhelming attacking football Ange craves has been missing a lot for a few weeks now, appearing only in fits and starts and rarely for even a full half.

This is because every week there's a player or two featuring who either are off for (Kulu, Johnson) or just plain aren't Ange ballers (Skipp, Hojbjerg). We need a settled run with 9-10 players consistently featuring every week and that one or two being an injury, form or suspension rotation.

Once we have midfielders comfortable taking the ball on the half turn and backing their own strength again, we will be very different to contend with.

Everton bullied us first half. Richie worked hard but johnson and werner might aswell have not been on the pitch. Bentancur still needs to get back to himself.

We were better in the second half. For a while.

Work to do.

Agreed. Sarr just back from afcon and couldn't play the full game. Bentancur and Maddison recently back from injury, not fully match fit and couldn't play the full game. Bissouma still at afcon. GLC injured. No surprises the midfield isn't fully firing.

Having a fully fit and match fit squad is a rarity and can't be relied on. But as you say having a mostly fit, mostly match fit squad does happen and hopefully we'll get a look at that soon.

fudging Spurs fans are like 12 year olds, so easy to wind up ..

Poch needs time at Chelsea, ETH needs time after 18 months at United, nobody is calling Klopp naive after being under by nothing more than long ball punts this week-end, but somehow Ange and Vicario have serious flaws that need to be worked out.

New system, lots of injuries, we are learning and yes the league adapts, we will adapt back ..

The fact is under Conte and Jose, the opposition simply had to play half decent football and they would walk through us, the fact that clubs need to resort to bullying/cheating the GK, fouls to break up play and constant long ball, low percentage plays is telling.

Lets see where we end the season ...

During which time we missed Maddison and VdV through injury for about two months.

We missed Romero, Udogie & Bissouna through suspension.

We lost Romero for about three weeks with injury.

We lost Davies through injury.

We lost Bentancur through injury.

We missed Bissouma, Sarr and Son to international duty.

We played multiple games with Davies and Romero as CB’s.

We have had two keepers and several youth players on the bench - meaning that our strength in depth has been severely lacking.

We are 5th - 2 points off 4th.

Overall Ange and his staff and this squad have done brilliantly.

Top post. Still a lot of work to be done in many areas, but our overall improvement remains fantastic.

Totally agree. Add to that, this is obviously Ange's first season. My hope was for around 6th when he joined, with some far bigger bumps than we've seen.

If we can get to 4th, a few new faces in the summer and then another pre-season with him, we can really challenge for the title next season I believe.

Udogie, sarr, vdv, vicario, dragusin will all have gained experience playing in the prem. The young lad from sweeden will come in. Devine might get a place in the squad. Does the croatian kid join in jan?

Ange would have fully assessed the squad and the league. So can make informed decisions that need to be made.

We're in a good place.

No, no, you happy clapper (/s if not blatantly obvious)

Poch, ETH, Howe need time, they have had real problems to deal with. Spurs is just riding their luck, will get smashed when they play a real team and Ange is just naïve

Somehow we aren't 10th as predicted by every pundit, we haven't failed to find goals with Kane leaving (actually 3rd in league overall, first with away goals), and not just two points of 4th, but 6 points (and +15 GD) ahead of 6th, yet we have critical issues that must be solved.

And Spurs fans everywhere are lapping it up, Vicairo is a liability, Ange is running out of excuses, it's going to catch up .. seriously fudge these people .. miserable clams

Would have expected bigger bumps even if not hit as hard as we have been with injuries. To keep the bumps this relatively limited with all those issues is really impressive.

Similar to what happened with Poch. Very high expectations set by (relatively) early success. Then when, as is rather standard, we don't quite live up to those very high expectations people get really upset.

This place has been rather serene and sensible about it though.

It's how quick it's went from "not bothered about results, where we finish as long as it's entertaining" to the "ange has been found out, we're no where near winning a trophy" that's disappointing.

That's a shame to hear. I thought the lift of just something positive and entertaining to watch (post the miserable two) would last a tad longer.

But the world is on 3 X speed these days (conservative estimate:)) and the want of something better is driven by the constant highlighting and micro analysis of anything that's going wrong...and that makes up 95% of all MSM/SM.

Tbh I wasn't aware of a current wave of moaning as I only really read or talk spurs on here or with the pod guys. And as someone else commented...we're a pretty fair bunch on here.

Just de-tune from that 95% I mention above.....it's all a cash cow behind the scenes anyway.

I never believed anyone really signed up to that first bit.

Results always dictate.
