Ross Barkley

He will get into Evertons side especially as Sam is there, he will do anything to get results that fella

I read an Allardyce interview recently where it sounded to me like he was putting Barkley in the shop window. I assume that he wants to bring in funds to strengthen the side. They are not short of players in Barkley's position.

Do you have any articles to support that? Do not recollect seeing anything of that nature in the papers?

The official word from team Barkley is that he rejected the inital approach preferring to get fit before assessing his options. The unoffical version at the time was that he was indeed in London for a medical and walked out, some will tell you it was a phone call that he received at the time that made him leave, others that he was being purchased without Conte's blessing and when he found out he made it clear he didn't need him, but there was a lot of noise that evening that he was indeed at Chelsea.

Most Everton fans on their forum say it was Barkley putting a stop to it to reduce the fee and increase his signing on fee, probably with us.

No signing-on fee would make up the difference of c.£150k pw at Chelsea vs c.£90k pw at us. That's more than £3m a year, for every year he lasts at Chelsea/out on loan from Chelsea.

On the BBC journalist opined that he was there to sign for Chelsea but as there was a suggestion it was without Conte's blessing it is believed that Barkley (or his agent) tried to phone Conte but his call was not taken, so Barkley left.

Would suggest he wants to be here where he feels he can become the best he can, he turned down 150k from Everton so it's not all about the money

This Conte stuff is interesting - I hadn’t heard that before.

Chelsea are a club where the Manager is not likely to be there 2 years from when you sign. So there’s an argument to say Barkley should sign, take the money and try his luck with the next guy if it isn’t Conte.

But we are a club where barring a catostrophic fudge up, it will be Poch. Barkley knows how Poch works with players. He will
be able to see a clear route to playing and improving at a high level.

I really think this signing would be good for us. And it’s a definite one where, like Sess, we should be selling the idea of playing time and development all we can to get players over the line. If we don’t, I’ll be gutted and hope we have back up.

He’s nowhere near to being a first choice at Chelsea. Even if they sold Hazard or played him deeper, he isn’t going to be one of the first on the team sheet. Here he may be, particularly with Dembele’s struggles. And a manager he can trust. Really hope we get it over the line.

He'd play a similar role at Chelsea now to Scott Parker did way back when.

I doubt that Conte will be there next season.

I've just seen the pictures of the scars on his hamstring - that's a complete grade 3 tear/muscle reconstruction he's had there

No wonder clubs are wanting to see him play again before making any decision

Did you take that first picture yourself GB?....

Chelsea have since signed Drinkwater, who is starting to get some minutes under his belt.
Fabregas may only have a year or two left max, but is still doing a decent job for them.
Kante is undroppable.
Their bench already has the likes of Pedro and Willian hanging around.

If Ross is smart, he'll realise that he's more likely to get games under Poch. If he fancies a late sniff of that World Cup plane, Poch is more likely to give him the opportunity.

...However, having said all this, it could be argued that he'd face similar competition from Eriksen, Alli, Lamela, Sissoko and a promising Winks. Possibly only Dembele most likely to miss out due to regular fitness (which is actually the role I would like to see Barkley moulded into. Him and big Vic would be a very strong pairing).

I also think Barkley fits into our team as a Demebele replacement.

Lets be honest, attacking wise, he simply isnt good enough. His numbers arent even close to what we already have.

His attributes though, put me well in mind of Demebele, I think he has the potential to become that sort of player.

And before GB comes in with players not developing past 24 etc - Demebele is the perfect counter. He didnt really settle into that midfield role until much later. He went to fulham as a striker, where despite his ability simply didnt get enough goals and assists. And that ability saw him stay in the team, but moved LW/RW/#10/AM... and in each he just didnt hit the spot. It wasnt until he played CM he seemed to go up a level and really deliver - which is when we bought him.

And even then it took a couple of seasons to really find his role, at which point he was what? 28?

Barkley has the physique, skill, control and ability to find a pass to really succeed in a Dembele type role IMHO.
