***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs KAA Gent***

Agree... we need some bloody footballers in the team again!

I am not sure if he could play in a Poch team but I like Cabaye at Palace, otherwise I would say Coric the Croatian kid looks a good prospect.

Think Wanamya has been a great buy, but I said last season we should sell Dembele his stock was high and he is injury prone and to old for a poch pressing team, we need to find a balance in the team where we have players that can run all day but also create something as well.

Poch needs to rotate to keep players mentally fresh and for the love of GHod give Kane a rest.

I get that we dont spend much money but what we do spend we spend badly.

It's all about attitude. When our players are up against the Cheats or the Goons we play like men possessed and battle and strive and prevail... when we are up against Gent we jog about, stay in 3rd gear and don't perform.

Imagine if Spurs signed their best 10 players and their manager... we would go back to play against them again in 5 years and lose again because we're just not very bothered, whilst they are MASSIVELY up for it. They were going down with cramp and celebrating like they won the league, because we are a huge scalp. That desire counts for SO much in football

More so in one off cup games

It's why Wycombe ran us close and they gave a sheet

Without wing backs we are average. Without Lamela, Rose and Jan available our squad suddenly looks very thin.

Poch's demeanour in the interview worried me a bit - it was an awful performance and to write it off as if we were just a bit unlucky on the night was a silly approach.

I am sure that we can turn things around quickly, but we are not as good as some thought a week or two ago. We're also not as bad as some think tonight.

NSR can anyone help me stop the constant alerts on my iPhone and iPad I am getting every time someone posts on this thread. I have gone into my alerts function and de- selected every box, but they are still coming through.

Please help as they are driving me mad!

Many thanks

2nd favourites? Do me a favour.

That tonight turned into a f#ckin shambles. Well done Tottenham, you managed to outdo Arsenal last night

The whole team needs to take a long, and I mean long, hard look at themselves. Pure and Simple, that was nowhere good enough. Make no mistake, two more performances like that and we wont have to worry about fixture congestion because there wont be one.

Right now its beginning to look like our season peeked after the WBA match.
Ahhh, fixture congestion freee (in the house elf Dobby voice)

Would you suggest that a marathon runner sprint the race?
you DO know how fast marathon runners, I mean the world class ones, run ? It IS a sprint for me, it's around 20kmh.

I just think we need to figure out how to win without playing at break neck speed all the time. Our game management leaves a lot to be desired when we aren't at our best. Mind you, our worst defeats in recent times have been 2-0, hardly 5-1 which has come at the effeminates, FA cup semi with the blue scum ...

Change this clams avatar already. We can blame Poch, the players, the weather, the pitch, but we all know full well the responsibility lies with mother fudging @LemonadeMoney

I am not sure if Poch is now trying to listen to outside influences too much; fans, pundits etc.
The changes are being made I think cos he is trying to win matches and change the mentality. To me the selection suggested he wanted to win this game and get the tie done.
Unfortunately, I struggle to understand why he doesn't go with what he sees in games, for me Wanyama was shocking against Pool, not the only one, but he wasn't contributing anything and we lacked creativity. So why play him again? Surely, Winks with Dembele would have been better?
Having not selected Wimmer at RCB when Alde was injured as he wanted a right footed CB as RCB, why then not play him LCB when Verts is out?
Dier is surely better with Dembele in a 4-2-3-1, not Wanyama, who I think is better as a lone DM, so if we are playing 4-1-4-1, that will do for Wanyama or an old style 4-4-2.
I wonder, if he has his favourites, Today we needed a goal and Wanyama was just jogging around not tracking yet he stayed on whole game.
He needs to be sending clear messages to players, that he is consistent and tactically astute.
The other thing which I can't fathom is why we persist with inverted wingers, no effective ball into the box, no dribbles into the box, winger retains possession by going backwards and above all very few goals from them.
The two footed wingers who could have been effective as inverted wingers, Messrs Chadli and Townsend dumped. To be fair we are better with Lamela but otherwise our lack of pace, technique and goal threat from them is evident.

He did two out of three things right, imo. Picked the strongest side he could, and switched the tactics up early to counter our lethargy in the first half. The mentality...honestly, I think it may be more in the lads' heads than with Poch.

If he doesn't possess a hairdryer, get a Roy Keane in and let him do it, without Poch having to get involved.

As for the second bit, I'm holding off on our transfer policy until next season...if any of these new players survive until then, that is, because Poch may not be as patient as I'm attempting to be.

Preferably someone experienced, preferably someone from a big club with knowledge of how to win titles and show up when it matters, preferably someone with that sort of dogged, ruthless personality to counter-act all the happy-clappy stuff our lads are constantly involved in. Try Mascherano from Barca. Thiago Motta from PSG, perhaps. Pepe from Real Madrid. Barzagli from Juventus.

We won't yet see if we have or we haven't until the season ends, but it hasn't been *all* bad so far - our dominations of Chelsea and City at home prove that we're not completely feckless. But I'm at a loss about how to explain this.

Their next match is against Fulham, in the FA Cup. Will they sod that one off too, to preserve themselves for the Gent return leg and then Stoke at home?

You're being paid to do what the manager tells you and give your all in training and in games - leave game management to the coaching staff and concentrate on not being spineless in games you can't be arsed with.
Honestly, why the fudge do you bother making dozens of posts in this match thread if you don't care about the game? Why can't you just fudge off and leave those of us who support Spurs and want us to win in peace? You can surely find a better way to spend your evening than to write post after post with the same tiresome content about a game you couldn't give a toss about. Find some porn and knock one out if you can still get it up. Go to the cinema. Read a book. Get out of the house and annoy people in real life instead. If you have nothing better to do than this, then your life must so incredibly sad that I cannot find words for it. You are the most obnoxious, arrogant, repulsive human being I have ever come across in my life.

It's clearly a small cup for much smaller clubs like Manchester United to take seriously.... :/

You could hear their players still celebrating during poch interview.
For winning the first leg, narrowly. Says a lot.

Personally I don't think it was a completely awful perfomance but you expect much much more from our nearly full-strength team. Dembele looked very solid as usual. Also we managed to create a couple of goal-scoring opportunities against a very organised defensive team. Still it's nowhere near our level and the response in 2nd leg should be relevant.
Our form in away games this season has regressed comparing it to the previous season. I wonder why it happened.
Also there's defenitely a problem with players' mentality in European games (Poch still didn't sort it out) and a problem with Sissoko who should have never been bought and should be sold ASAP.
We also badly miss Lamela's energy and desire in such games.

Agree, apart from Poch. No point bemoaning the performance and stalling the teams fading confidence further. He saw the game, knows we weren't our best. It's his job to rebuild now.

Blimey - it must have been bad for you to give that assessment!

Really? Is that what you've got? Just because I don't go knee-deep into the crowd swinging fists and screaming about how everything and everyone is a clam who should be sacked/castrated/slaughtered because they player badly in a couple of games. Games where key players are missing?

Some of the venting in here tonight has been absurd. I wonder of some people have attention spans or memories longer than that of a common gnat?!!!

I have to laugh at the Poch bashing. Yes. He got it wrong again tonight (I would personally look to play Dier back as a holding mid and look for a back three of Davies, Toby and Walker) but some of the vitriol is comical and goonerworthy.

We started last night without Rose, Vertonghen and Eriksen. He tried Winks and Sissoko. How the hell
will he find out who has what unless he tries them? FWIW I thought Sissoko was awful.

Anyway, carry on..:[emoji23][emoji6][emoji106]

Really fair. And I wonder if we are seeing him throw the likes of Sissoko out there so as it is clear we need shot of them and a proper replacement? What a shame - I want the lad to succeed but I cannot see it happening...
