OMT - Tottenham Hotspur - Leicester City

I'd liked to have seen Dembele moved into a 10 position. Get him to try and beat a man on the edge of their box, get a shot a away, draw a foul, draw defenders and pop it off into space. He's really the only one that can go past players.

CCV on for Eriksen, Dier into midfield as Demebele in behind Janssen.
Alli actually does that. Having Dembele in there too might congest more than help.

Stolen from Spurs Magna Carta in the scoring thread.

Since we beat City we've scored 1 goal from open play in 5 games, wow.

Sadly we just don't have the strength in depth that we thought we had at the moment. If this continues then our shot at the title will be over by Christmas.

For fudges sake look at the table man...backwards, you know descending down the table. Have you had a look at our next run of games?

Over a period of 2 or 3 match days.

You're overreacting to a minuscule sample size. It's a 38 game season. A dip in form (where we're still picking up points) this early on won't define our season.

Quite apart from that, actual position in the table means less than naff all 10 games in. As long as we're in touch points-wise, that's what matters right now. Of course I recognise that by definition that 'staying in touch' means we'll be near the top, but whether that's 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th at the moment, the actual position doesn't matter.

I said earlier in this thread I felt Dembele held the key to this game for the reason you stated above and his strength to cover Mahrez. He did the latter very well but as an attacking option he was poor. He held the ball too long and didn't get into the box or near it. Especially after Mahrez went off. There was a case for going 4-1-4-1 to see this. If not then I would have liked to see Alli stay and Dembele go off, I still think he needs games so was surprised we didn't give him time in the sacrificial Liverppool game.

We'll do better the next three games as we are playing two teams we can control midfield against and are poor at the back but also look to play and leave space for us (w.ham, Chelsea).
Arsenal - if we get hold of midfield we can exploit the space, but if we let them get a decent amount of ball they'll be very dangerous. And they will be able to defend against us with ease if we are as ponderous as recently

Alli tends to arrive late, going beyond the striker. You could push him to one of the wider positions if Demebele was to move to the 10. Anyway, just an option, just a thought. I'm certainly no tactician!

6 points dropped in all winnable games.

The next 3 games are much harder and likely hood of doing the same if not worse will see us out the running.

No imagination, no impact. Plodding, pedestrian, predictable.
We were less plodding after GKN came on. He was much better than against Liverpool. It would be interesting to see him on the right as he might actually be a bit quicker and less prone to cut back. Also, we really need some to dribble into the box.

I have always wanted Dembele to dribble into the box. Iit is by far and away the best way to counter ten men behind the ball.

Dembele has never done well when he's played in attacking positions for us - he's best where he is...strong as an ox in CM and, alongside Dier or Wanyama, means we can over-power teams in CM. It reminds me of what the other lot had Vieira and Petit in CM - they overpowered oppositions.

That said, Dembele was poor today but as I've said repeatedly, despite him being a very important player for us last year we've gone in to this season without like for like cover for him. I thought Bentaleb would have been that man however, once it was clear he was going to be shipped out, we should have signed a replacement

The second they scored I knew we weren't gonna win, we've hit a really bad patch in front of goal, can't score to save our lives at the moment.

Agree with Hotshot-Tottenham but it is still really frustrating and quite worrying tbh.

Depends on what you want for the season of course, but for me, I'd happily take top 4 again and consecutive CL qualification.

So even if we lost the next 3, I don't think that scuppers our chances after just one third of the season. So much football to play, and the table doesn't really start to take shape until halfway through really.
