OOMT - Tottenham Hotspur V Boro

You don't think our game disappeared? We weren't able to pass, keep our shape, or take our chances. Yeah apart from that we were fine (one fluky goal from disaster in truth).

We lost our shape, but found it again not long after Lamela came on (not a coincidence imo). Thought we recovered well from their rather fluky goal, but you're right they could easily have gotten another fluky goal. Overall we were clearly the better team in an away game in the PL and more than deserved our win.

Put it this way, if you were the manager, would you be happy with how we did second half? Or is there room for improvement?

"Woeful" the wrong word, but our track record of dealing with pressure situations (last seasons run in for example) we seem to breakdown, not galvanise under pressure. Something the management team can identify, understand and fix. Fatigue comes into it, but that's not all of it.

There's always room for improvement.

We didn't break down. They scored a goal from nothing from a corner when we looked well in control. They had a good period after that for about 5-10 minutes (iirc), but instead of panicking and breaking down we (1) made the smart sub, (2) regained our shape, (3) started using the ball well again and most importantly (4) saw the game out. Doing so in a way where their best/only chance to win it was another fluky goal from nothing.

If Chadders had played, would he have worked as hard?

I think having Sissoko on the pitch also gets the best out of Son. If teams get too tight to him, Son has space and I think that's what's happened so far. If the opposition pushed up against us and squeezes Son, Sissoko has all the space to run in behind and break the lines.

I don't worry about Sissoko's ability at all, or fit to the system. I have a slight worry about how he fits into the team spirit, but I think he's got a good mentality and wants to be a winner.

Wouldn't be too hard to work as hard as Sissoko today. I'm sure Chadli could match his 1 successful tackle, 0 interceptions. Chadli was always good for being bullied at a corner too.

I thought Poch would really get more out of such a physical player.

Chaldi problem was never ability... All about attitude...

Imagine if Chaldi actually played to his potential

Also shout out to GK, thought he looked composed and confident when he came on. Clinton always worked hard when he got a chance, but I think GK is a class above.

I didn't see the game, was at work so relied on texts from my dad. He said we played well first half, went to sleep a bit in the 2nd and Sissoko wasn't very good.

What do you lot reckon? A very good 3 points, especially considering the players who didn't play. 2nd in the table!

First half - we were great and Son excellent.

Second half - overall ok but we did let them back into the game and nearly regretted it

I thought one of the key differences was VJ. In the first half he was making runs, holding the ball up well and dragging defenders all over the place. In the second half, he was so keen to get a goal himself, he appeared to stay much more central, thereby not creating space and leading to too much congestion in and around their penalty area. I think this is the main reason Poch subbed him as otherwise to take him off wifi only likely reduce his confidence further.

He needs to keep on doing what he was doing in the first half and not become so pre-occupied with scoring himself. Play his natural game and the goals will come.

He probably needs time to adjust though, barely been at the club a month. Poch is a good coach, not a miracle man!

Good game. Was worried that we wasted a lot of chances. Sissoko does look slow but he did provide some moments. Alli worried me in this game - made a series of selfish Hollywood decisions. Glad we got the three points. That Traore kid that came on for Boro looked deadly - powerful, fast and driven.

Who played deep with Wanyama today?

Lined up as a 4-1-4-1 until Winks came ond reverterted to the usual formation.

Traore Gave the ball away every time he had it, but definitely excited the crowd.

Definitely need to give him time, and one PL start is obviously not enough to judge him. There are some worries for me though.

1. We signed a 27 year old player from a relegated PL team. He wasn't signed to develop his potential, he was signed for a quick impact. One game isn't enough, but I think the club would have wanted him to make an impact relatively early this season.

2. Today was very reminiscent of several of his "off games" for Saudi Sportswashing Machine imo. Poch isn't a miracle worker, but he's ruthless and very clear about what he wants. An early unwillingness to meet those demands is not a good sign for me. I was expecting the opposite. He has competition, this was his first game. He should have been out there looking to prove a point in terms of pressing and tracking back.

Thank you @dza for giving me my 500th "like".

another meh game for me despite the scoreoline - some good some bad, but a mixed performance compared to our full potential
giving poch 10 games to bring us up to speed like last season - but expecting us to perform BETTER compared to last season given that Poch got the men he wanted.

our real tests coming up soon; we'll see if poch can bring us there

We absolutely outplayed a PL team away from home. Obvious in the chances created both from stats and looking at highlights. The scorline didn't reflect the game. Not because we won, but because we didn't win by more. I don't understand how you can say that it was a "meh game despite the scoreline". If it was disappointing at all it was disappointing because the final scoreline didn't more accurately reflect how dominant we were for much of the game.

If the new standard Pochettino has created makes this a "meh" performance I think he must be praised heavily for making that the new standard he's now being judged by.

Good to get another win. Excellent first half, goals obviously gave us confidence. Decent second half overall, though we should have been out of sight it became too close.

Great game from Son, a lot of the others either there or on the way. Sissoko needs to up his game massively though. Hope he's way off match fitness because that wasn't good enough.

At one point whilst we were defending a corner in the second half, Sissoko was bent double in our box absolutely winded and struggling for air. This suggests to me, along with other elements of his game today that he is way off full match fitness.

I presume Sissoko will be told in no uncertain terms that today wasn't good enough, not near.

If he wants to play he will have to do better. So it will be interesting to see how he reacts in the next game he is allowed to play.

I hope Sissoko doesn't turn out to be adebayor mark2.

What did Poch see in him ?

It,s early days but we have to fire on all cylinders this Season!

Otherwise well win, sausage all......again.......

Coy.........................................Spurs................................

Let's not forget that had the 2nd best away game record behind champions Leicester last season with a weaker and a more economical first eleven.

Clearly we have a difference of opinion and I do not intend to justify my opinions to you, but I think Boro are a poor team and happy to discuss with you at the end of the season...
