He creates more chances than anyone else in our team and covers more ground than most too. The only thing that I think is separating him from the truly top players is consistency.

he is not being left behind by anyone. He is still a young player who will experience ups and downs. If Poch wanted to get rid he would have sold this summer for 30-40 mill plus without having to bother negotiating a new contract.

During his first 18 months he was our de facto Bale replacement - a matchwinner who dug us out when we were playing poorly.

But since the team has become an effective unit, he's become the least impressive cog in it. His passing is accurate, but uninspiring, and he is always the first to disappear when the chips are down. If I had to rank our starting 11 in order of importance to the unit, he'd definitely be firm last now.

To be fair Alli has kicked him out of his favoured position and he's now stuck in a more peripheral role. But I hope this season to see much more of Son and GKN partnering Lamela in the WFs. And then trying for Isco or Coric again in January as a permanent upgrade.

Last season he was our most effective attacking player. I would agree that his form can be inconsistent but he is still young, so that shoukd not be a surprise.

Against the big teams he often played a different role for us last season. Starting wide right but dropping into a midfield three when the opposition were in position or to initiate our attacks.

The stats on the link below seem to support him being our most effective creative outlet last season. What stats am I missing that support what you are saying?

The qualitative ones about missed opportunities (better passes he didn't play) and lacking heart in battle.

Hmmmm. I would like to see his stats in terms of surrendering possession compared to Lamela and Alli.... I bet Eriksen is no worse than either. Your last irrational hatred for a Spurs played was reserved for Dembele., it is good to see that you are consistent in terms of reserving your hatred for our best players.

The League Cup semi final 2nd leg at Bramall Lane in early 2015 was the last time I remember Eriksen being impressive.
