Breel Embolo

He sounds like a perfect signing for us, massive talent but prob wouldn't demand a start straight away. He'd get shed loads of playing time anyway next season with us.

Depends on his mentality (unfounded beliefs in his own abilities) and what the people around him are telling him.

I get worried with perfect signings. Cue images of Soldado, Bent

Right now at least a "perfect signing" is someone that will have 1-2 years to properly settle in both to the club and the league. We're not necessarily looking for someone to come in and hit the ground running. Thanks to Harry Kane.

I'd disagree, if Kane got injured we need a striker who is ready to come in now not in 2 seasons time.

Been over this repeatedly with various posters, but I disagree. The "buy a backup striker ready to come right in and be awesome if the first choice gets injured" isn't the right route for us to down imo. It's likely to be very expensive and that player is likely be get unhappy when/if Kane is fit for extended periods of time. It's the failed approach of Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea etc.

I would rather see us develop a talented player with whatever game time is allowed by Kane. Of course I'm not saying bring in a 17 year old that won't be ready for first team football for 2 years, but someone like Embolo, Dembele at Fulham or perhaps Batshuayi (though on the expensive side) seems like a good idea to me. Our focus shouldn't be on getting someone that can hit the ground running.

Yup.... The key thing is that they must be a number 9 type player.... Not a Son or a Chadli type who 'can do a job' (as usually the job that those types do is the job of a number 7/11 trying to play as a 9). We need a player who IS a number 9. One who will naturally takes up the positions of a number 9, somebody who can play with his back to goal as well as on the shoulder, a player who's first instinct to try to score a goal as opposed to try to create for others, and one who has that confidence (or even arrogance) about them that all good centre forwards need. They don't have to have gone through finishing school (we can be their finishing school) but equally they cannot just be starting out expecting us to provide their entire education.

All footballers have unfounded belief in their own ability.

The question is just how much better he is in his mind than in reality. His agent will push him towards money, but does he himself believe he should be first choice wherever he goes?

I think it's just another unfunny pun....

If given the choice of signing Embolo or nobody this summer I am actually beginning to veer towards the latter just so I don't have to read the same rubbish puns forevermore.

We all saw what it was like to lose Dembele and Alli and not have a replacement it cost us 2nd place. If that had been Kane out but for a longer period we would've finished 6th at best with either Chadli or Son up front.

I'm not advocating buying Lewandowski, Benzema or Griezmann but we do need a striker that can replace Harry and not have the drop off in level that Chadli or Son gives us.

Is Embolo a good player, yes and I think I've already said so, he would be a good addition but is he immediate cover for Harry I'm not so sure.

What kind of player are you talking about? Shane Long?

The $64000 question isn't it.

Probably not Shane Long although he fits the description i can't see him being the player we need. I was thinking of another young striker Vincent Janssen of AZ Alkmaar.

Embolo is more of a Chadli/Son upgrade rather than backup for Kane.

from what i have seen/read he is a CF primarily, one which leads the line so i don't agree with that last point if that's the case
