The best Spurs team of all time - centre forward

Who was the second best centre forward to play for Spurs?

Who ever I vote for I will question my choice, there are three who deserve my vote ( Lineker, Gilly and Chivers) all off them were top class.

But I have finally decided on Chivers, there was a spell of 18 months when he was the best in Europe and I saw him win the Lge Cup against Villa virtually on his own ( with the help of a goal line clearance by Perryman).

I have gone for Sherringham. 99 goals at a better rate than a goal every 2 games in his first (5 season) spell at the club. (99 in 197 games)

He still managed to score 26 goals in 80 games when he returned to us as a 35 year old.

Harry Kane has scored more goals than Berbatov in fewer appearances, and he hasn't fudged off to Utd (yet!) :D

Going to go for Smith, then if I could >Chivers>Sheringham (even though he fudged off to Utd!)>Gilzean>Lineker>Keane (even though he went to his boyhood fan club)>Defoe>Archibald.

Klinsmann was one of the best forwards in the game at the time he signed for us, i don't begrudge him his move to Bayern - i seem to recall Sugar pulling the wool over his eyes about our standing at the time? Anyway he came back to help us avoid relegation so that wipes out him leaving in my book - plus i loved him when i was a kid

See this is tainted revisionism. He was not one of the best forwards when he signed for us. Yes he had a good reputation but he was playing for Monaco doing nothing when we signed him. Had a great season with us and left as soon as he could. When he came back to "save" us he was sitting on the bench at Sampdoria so it was in his best interests to get a game. And if not for that 4 goal haul in the very last game his return stint would have been minimal.

I loved him too that first season until he tinkled off in his Bug.

You won't taint my memories!

When Jimmy is injured we are going to need someone almost as deadly at putting the ball in the back of the net. We don't need a playmaker in there, we don't even need someone who can score thirty-yard screamers, we have enough of both already. We just need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.

Which is why I voted Gary Lineker.

Looks like Lineker edges it. There have been no changes to the front three for several days. I was hoping to see a few more late votes for Chivers. I wish I hadn't been persuaded to vote for Gilzean.

Agreed. This is why I quite liked picking one striker, it was easy. The second is very difficult.

I've voted for Gilzean. When I first started watching Spurs, he and Chivers were the two strikers, although as a child I was confused by the number Gilzean wore as the newspapers still reported to classic 1-11 teams. Before the discussions I would probably have picked Chivers, but after reading the comments here I've been persuaded. So congratulations to those putting in a good word for Gilzean, you've caused someone on the internet to change their mind.

And this is why you don't change your mind on the internet.

That's because it closed on Tuesday. ;)

Ah, I missed that. I was expecting some post declaring the winner and presenting the final team/squad.

I think this is the final team:

Sorry. I've been sitting on my arse and forgot to wrap this up. It was Gascoigne as first choice and Teddy as back up at #10

Two glen hoddles, there's only two glen hoddles!

Oops. You can never have too many Hoddles.

Thanks, I knew that. I just got my selection mixed up with the GG XI. It should be fixed now.

Overall, I'm happy with the team. Seven of the XI are my first choices, with an eighth out of position (Hoddle, hence his extra appearance). My other first choices are in the backup roles.

Agreed. It produced a lot of good discussion and the disagreements on selections for the votes were nicely handled by Milo.
