Milos Veljkovic

I think that you have to put your faith in Poch and trust his judgement. He has been a pretty astute judge of character so far.

His reasons for not fancying Veljkovic maybe as much to do with off field reasons than for his performances on it.

I'd be fairly confident it's a contract standoff. Like with Azzaoui and Ceballos in the past 6 months.

There was that thing in August where we pulled the plug on his Leeds loan because he wouldn't sign a new contract before he moved (which shows that we wanted to keep him)

That's why it's so frustrating, because I don't think it's to do with ability/potential.

If the club wanted to keep him he'd either be training with the first team or have assurances about his future here - my guess would be that the reason he isn't signing a new contract is because he's got neither of those things, unless he's been tapped up and told to see out his contract

Veljkovic is the real deal, very talented player.

I wouldn't sell him, we should be looking for a quality loan for him.

We aren't selling him, he's out of contract in 7 months. We will still get a fee if he moves to another English club. Not sure what happens if he moves elsewhere in Europe.

To be honest we seem to have a lot of good young players coming through at this time and we will not be able to keep them all happy, it means there are bound to be those who want to move on and play elsewhere.

I'd be interested in what has made you come to that conclusion other than him being a player that you like.

I don't think we had contract stand offs with either of the other players you mentioned. Ceballos simply didn't progress as the club hoped he would. Azzaoui we received a good offer for and we weren't going to offer him a contract for a value as high as Wolfsburg were offering. It doesn't look like we are making any special effort to keep Veljkovic either.

I am not sure that is the case for Azzaoul, I heard that the club wanted to keep him but he did not want to stay.

Indeed, I guess the trick is to make sure we just hold on to cream of the crop which is easier said done.

I am just happy that there appears to be an actual progression for our kids. I remember after King there were a number of barren years

Indeed they did.... But Wolfsburg were offering a lot more money in the player's direction. It often comes down to how much you want to keep the player and in this case we didn't want to keep him as much as Wolfsburg wanted him.

what i want to know is, do you actually watch the youth teams / players on loan? It seems you are always using reports / articles about these players as your opinion rather than first hand info?

Still obviously not good enough for the first team. He will end up being one of them decent championship / lower premier league defenders at best.

But Fazio is not even on the bench either is he? don't see how this helps him in anyway unless we get an injury.

We need 4 CBs in the squad to cover injuries, suspensions, having 60 games to play. Now Dier has become a CM, we only have 3 + Fazio.

Promoting MV to 4th choice at worst saves us some wages for 2 seasons while we wait for 2CV to become old enough. At best we might have another academy break-through.

For him it's psychological - training with the first team squad like Onomah, Winks and McGee have been since August, and seeing a clearer pathway to the first 11.

Bang on GB. The only reason he is not on that path that i can offer (and Windy does as well) is Poch doesn't fancy him. It may be a style thing with Poch, as many others rate him so highly.

Fazio could be worth 6/7M to us, and i dont think we lose anything if he goes and MV then CCV are promoted up. Thing is time is running out and it wont be the lower leagues he goes to it will be a decent club abroad.

He will not end up at a Championship club, he is a very good player (not just my opinion), good enough to challenge for our first team (it would take a WC player to really displace either Jan/Toby at this point).

Have to believe to Ricky's point, it's a style thing with him & Poch, hard to see any other reason

I'd love to know why Poch doesn't rate him. However, I think Poch has shown that he is quite fair with players and doesn't have favourites, so if Poch doesn't rate him I am sure that there are some good reasons. A similar deal to the Azzouli one would be as good as we're going to get I reckon.

There were rumours on other forums over the weekend that he's been made a final offer of a new deal. So potentially some millage the story yet.

I can see why Poch might not rate him as a CM, but as a CB (which he's been concentrating on for quite a while now) that doesn't make much sense to me.
