This summer if we don't make CL...........

Some of our older players are getting found out, King it is sad to say is looking very jaded. Almost suicidal contemplating a new season with him, Nelsen and Gallas. Dawson and Kaboul have hardly been injury free. Needs a long, brave look that position. Hopefully Caulker will live up to the hype. Friedel we cant guarantee another top year from. Full backs are fine, though could be improved.

Midfield is generally good, though probably needs freshening up. I wonder if VDV has got as much out of life at WHL as he would do?
Most of the unwanted fringe players are gone, though still have the complications of Jenas and Bentley. Need to get them packed off to China or the Middle East. Have enough good young players like Townsend, Livermore floating about to not need to go and buy young talent like, its a case of going big or going home. We are crying out for a winger who can play on either flank as quality cover for Lennon/Bale - Hoilett would do.

Adebayor would need something north of 100k a week to stay, unless we got 3rd and guaranteed CL football I just dont think we would be doing that. A big shame, we could really do with him sticking around. Otherwise, one big bad ass target man who can play with or without Defoe.

Bale has his head screwed on and is young. He wont go just yet, not least while Spurs are still an enjoyable club for him to play for, who build their game around him. But if he is still here when his contract comes up for renewal I expect him to be getting a release clause put in.

Levy is a businessman and selling Modric won't make financial sense.
He held his nerve last year and six months later we were challenging for the very top positions.
Sell Luka for 50mil, get a half decent replacement for 20mil and you still have to find the 30mil that we SHOULD be getting from CL football.

I know we are all stressed on here at the moment but that man must be doing his bald nut about what's going on at WHL right now.

Modric will make noises about leaving even if we finish 3rd and win the FA Cup. The way I feel about Bale sometimes, is that he thinks he doesnt have to try anymore....I think he has Barcelona Syndrome.

Like Berbatov, and Keane, and Campbell.....if they think they are too big for us this summer, despite our failing being partly down to their poor efforts recently, then they can both f#ck off, and we can rebuild with the 120M :)ross:) from their sales

I agree.

If Levy wants to play hard ball then I'll support him, no player dictates terms to THFC.

But if we sell them for ?ú100 million then cool.....we'll buy 4 world class players for the same money

Battling his little socks off was he? Playing where the CBs were?

Lennon is the one player who can be proud yesterday. If Modric demands CL football, he should be able to run rings around a Championship midfield.

Modric was decent in the first 25 mins but poor afterwards I thought

Lennon and Nelsen were our two best players yesterday IMO

Absolutely. We need a system of play, organisation. It has consistently been my biggest critisism of Redknapp. I thought during the first half of the season he had actually embedded something, now I think it was just fluke...

I've got a book from the first season of the Prem and an ex-pro analysed each different playing style in the league from long-ball, direct and short-passing styles. He labelled Man Utd's style at the time as "inspirational" - this is before they'd won the PL.

His basic premise was that Utd played based on an off-the-cuff style which when everyone was on song would look amazing - the best style in the league, but when one or two players are off-form it looked disjointed and they struggled. I think its very similar to our style now. When the front four do their stuff its unbeatable, but because we have nothing basic to fall back on, if we aren't performing there is no way to dig out a result.

Sounds about right. Sounds like it was observations of Utd 20 years ago though, would you say thats the way they play now?

I agree, without a basic system to build from when we arent on song we arent winning games, simple as that

Yes the book is 20 years old so it was about Utd's style as it was then! Obviously they've evolved a great deal since then into a well-oiled winning machine who can win under all circumstances.

so if harry doesn't get to england, he gets to sell bale and modric and go on his rosie47 project sprees? oh what fun!

If we don't make CL this season which is the likely outcome now, the setback to the club will be massive in terms of lost revenue and worldwide exposure. It will affect the sponsorship of the stadium, players will want leave, the quality of player we can sign will not be as good, our transfer targets will go to our rivals. It's an unmitigated disaster that will set us back years in our development, and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if we fall back into mid table again until the stadium revenue is in full flow.

Irrespective of what happens I think Redknapp should leave and I'd never thought I'd say that. Some times you play well and lose, but Redknapp has contributed most to this downfall with some baffling decisions and lack of proactivity. With the gap we had on Arsenal and Chelsea it is criminal to be where we are now. I class this up with the lasagne gate in terms of disappointment.

Right. I needed to get that out. 5 wins on the bounce. Man up you pussy mutha's and earn your money.

COYS.

Don't you mean the price of failure?

not really, i mean if we were an europa team then this summer would be run of the mill. but harry has raised our level along with levy so now europa looks like failure and players that we got thanks to how well we have done are on the move. if we werent successful this wouldnt be as much a failure as it is a dissapointment.

Badabing badaboom! Agree 100%. Personally I don't get the Modric love, maybe I'm just an eeejut but good as he is at passing, movement, and general ball retention I think a top class player has to have more to his game and Modric for whatever reason (given his superb technical ability) doesn't seem to have the consistency or the finishing ability to deserve the level of hero worship that he gets in the media and on this board. When he plays well, we play well and he is no doubt important to the way we play, but I think a number of our recent poor performances have been down (in part) to the likes of Modric and Bale not performing to the best of their abilities. Am I the only person who thinks Modric has not been playing that well in the second half of the season?

Lol very true, a few years ago a top five finish and a good run in the FA cup (possibly even winning it although I don't want to jinx us) would have been an encouraging season but we have moved on from that, I suppose in our expectations we are victims of our own improvement/success.

I think Harry should go this summer whether England come calling or not

I don't think it's all too unbelieveable that both Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Chelsea or at least one of them could win 4 out of the 5 last games. We'll need 12 perhaps as much as 14 points from 15 possible to be sure.

Harsh on him ? Not the least. Our form now is one league spot better than the 2 pts 8 games form he went on about when taking over !!!

No way; If Harry finishes in Top 4 then he should stay.

Look where we were before Harry came; Taking things for granted now.
