Tottenham vs Scum COC OMT

I think this argument has gone off on a few tangents but to me the question is a simple one. Do you play your strongest team versus Ar5ena1 whatever the competition and IMO the answer is always yes. Is the CC more or less importation than other competitions? I don't care. I want to beat them pure and simple.

I do understand where you are coming from but i disagree, I want us to field our strongest side in all cup competitions because I want to see us win a trophy and I amsick to death with this obsession of finishing among the losers ( top four).

I understand this viewpoint and it's one hold too 99% of the time. The only exceptions I make are when we play Arsenal or Chelsea. I just want to beat them.

So do I, but if we lost both games in the Prem to the Arse but won a trophy at the end of the season I would be happy with that. We should have fielded a better side last night but not because it was the Arse specifically but because its a trophy we should have been looking at as one we could win.

This ..

And the big problem with last night is Poch's failure to understand that ...

I want us to use our squad in the most efficient manner across the season, where we finish and what (if any) silverware we end up with will be by products of that.

Good point, but it seems to me that we are obsessed with finishing in the top four instead of winning trophys which is my point.

Serious question

- You really feel we needed to rotate our squad yesterday? for one game in September
- You feel playing Lloris would have had any impact on any later game in season?

I feel you need to keep players interested and at some level of match fitness. It's not about giving Lloris a rest its about maintaining a level for Vorm in case we need to plug him in.

Players want to play and they can get disillusioned if they spend to long without a game, that dissilusion can infect the dressing room. It's a tricky balancing act.

Of course Lloris playing wouldn't effect him later in the season, I think you're micro analysing things too much - it's important for back ups/rotational players to get game time so when/if they are called upon they have some experience in the team to draw upon - Early UEFA/League Cup games are the ideal games to give them that experience

Agree with the concept, not with the timing decision, not that game.

And by your own statement, we would have been no worse off playing Lloris ...

Which i think is valid in the QF or SF, perhaps not in the 1st round. Not being difficult but which games would you have rested players in?

Qarabag = We hadnt won a game yet in the season
Stoke = We hadnt won a game in the league and would have dropped into bottom 3 had we not have won
Palace = Where is took everything we had to win and going in i didnt think we would
Arsenal = Carling Cup 1st round where they were also resting players
Man C = Top of the league team where we need a performance at top of our game to get near them

You don't rotate players because they are tired, you rotate to prevent that.

Exactly.
Never ceases to amaze me how many people moan about players being "rested"
"It's only 6 games into the season, how can he be tired?"
"Ridiculous that he needs resting, he's a 22 year old athlete, it's his job" etc.

Players are just as often removed from a match squad in order to avoid injury, suspensions etc
