ITK Thread

I think Dier would do well in the event of a Fazio or Verts injury or suspension. I think Poch took him out of the firing line because he was struggling a bit at RB, but he showed plenty enough quality early in the season to suggest he will be more than competent. I'd be happy to see him alongside one of Fazio or Verts, but maybe not one of Kaboul or Chiriches.

I know we have numbers at CM, but we have a real problem without the quick-transitioners. Capoue, Paulinho and Dembele just aren't suited to our system at all, and Stambouli still seems off the pace.

We need an extra Poch system player in each of those 3 positions, but CM is maybe top of my list (or second after a pacy versatile forward).

I agree. We need another central midfield ball player.

Nothing ground-breaking (as you'd expect)...

ali z:
I hear final straw with Lennon is claiming hamstring was not right, also after Chel53a away did not accept criticism from Poch for goal.
Plenty Poch wants out, either through attitude or ability but its al about takers only 10 or so are safe.

Ali Z
more from ali z, sounds a bit like summing up paper rumours but anyway: As for players out a few clubs have enquired about Soldado, none on Ade, a firm bid place for Lamela (not accepted) interest in two mentioned plus Townsend and Pauli, none in Kaboom or Capoue.

We will only be buying if we sell first. Especially up front.
We currently have a big 25 man playing squad so if you see players going then you can expect players to come in but only then (maybe).
Enjoy the window especially the exciting press rubbish and I may/will come back late Jan. ;)

Lad cant even count.

Adebayor, Emmanuel
Bezerra Maciel Junior, Jose Paulo
Capoue, Etienne
Ceballos, Cristian
Chadli, Nacer
Chiriches, Vlad Iulian
Dembele, Moussa
Eriksen, Christian
Fazio, Federico
Friedel, Bradley Howard
Kaboul, Younes
Lamela, Erik
*Lennon, Aaron
Lloris, Hugo
*Mason, Ryan Glen
*Naughton, Kyle
*Rose, Daniel Lee
Soldado Rillo, Roberto
Stambouli, Benjamin
*Townsend, Andros
Vertonghen, Jan
Vorm, Michel
*Walker, Kyle Andrew

23 players

We need to get rid of incompatible players like Paulinho, Chiriches and Dembele so we can bring in more compatible ones.

But much more important is to get rid of the trouble ones - Kaboul, Ade, Capoue and possibly Lennon.

I don't believe Dembele is on an "incompatible" list seeing as he is getting a lot of game time as is doing well. His strength in the middle of the park is an asset.

23 players

You've also got the U21s - Davies, Dier, Bentaleb and Kane

Plus Yedlin now arrived

Plus Holtby, Carroll, Fredericks and Archer all over age and out on loan

Plus BAE and Khumalo, who are still on the wage bill but aren't registered to play

So that's 34.

We could definitely do with losing a net of 7 or 8 (so 10 or 11 if we want to bring 3 in).

Until the last week (Mason's injury), Poch has only used him as a defensive sub - bringing him on for an AM when we are ahead to suffocate the game

He's incompatible because he's so ponderous. A Poch system needs quick transitioning from CM, and he's the anti that.

He's certainly incompatible from a tactics perspective however I cant see him leaving in Jan given that there are more unproductive CMs at teh club than him (Capoue, Paulinho). Plus, despite not suiting the way we play, he's effectively 3rd choice CM now behind Mason and Bentaleb, marginally ahead of Stambouli. So on the basis that you want 4 CMs, we really need to bring two in before he goes. I guess you could say we could recall Carroll and sign AN Other but I still think he'll be at SPurs til the summer at least. The challenge for him, in terms of having a career at Spurs under Poch, is that to adapt to the way of playing his game needs to change subtantially and I'm not sure someone can do that at his stage of career

It will be interesting to see, but I suspect he's using Dembele to cover Mason (the more mobile one) and Stambouli to cover Bentaleb (the more defensive one) - i.e. I think we might see Mason-Stambouli when RM is fit again and now NB is away, rather than Mason-Dembele.

I'd shift Dembele as well as the other two if we can get a 4th body like Rabiot in.

Regardless we still only have 23 man premier league squad not the 25 the idiot refers to.
There's still space for two english trained players.
But we are not gonna pass on the opportunity of someone like Schneiderlin because of having to shift the likes of Friedel or Ceballos out of our squad.

Exactly.... We could bring in Berahino and Delph (for example) without having to move on a single player from our squad.

Schneiderlin is home grown

Before we come onto the £27 million (or whatever ridiculous amount it is that Southampton were rumoured to want last summer) transfer fee I just can't see Southampton selling him half way through the season. They don't need money and his value is unlikely to be significantly different in the Summer compared to now.

But that then creates a problem for the summer when Davies, Dier, Bentaleb and Kane all need to be named. They aren't spare spaces, we've just got players actively involved who happen to be just the other side of the age cut off.

Schneiderlin is homegrown BTW.

They don't need it. But their new owners (the daughter) have shown that they will take it none the less.

The only way I can see it happening though is if Koeman is really keen to be reunited with Dembele, and that exchange forms part of it.

He's just saying we have a very big squad so some need to leave.

I know the point you are making but I hope we sign neither. Delph? No thanks. Berahino? No thanks. ****ty attitude. Enough of one season chancers please...

that's how i read it - plenty refer to the squad as 'the 25' or similar nowadays

that is exactly right mate, furthermore, all that ITK is solid if not unspectacular. one of the best things about Poch is that if people just spend a little more time to read between the lines, it isn't hard to see what he's doing on and off the pitch.

I actually dont think Delph for £3m is a bad deal at all. Would compete with Mason for the more attacking CF role and I think he would suit Poch's tactics down to the ground. I dont think we'll get Schneiderlin and he's more a Bentaleb replacement/competitor for the more defensive role.

Given the lack of available players in Jan, I would take selling Paulinho and Capoue and signing Delph for £3m and perhaps Rabiot on loan. Dembele and Bentaleb for the DM role, Mason and Delph for the attacking role - much better balance, more suited to Poch plus a massive profit which could get us the attacker we need

Delph is home grown. Makes sense really. And cheap. Has the engine Poch wants. Never played with the level of quality around him as he would at Spurs so we might not have seen his best. Has looked good for England albeit very rash in the challenge. Put that down to exuberance rather than an innate trait though.

Would be as pointless as Steven Pienaar or Danny Murphy IMO. Instant deadwood
