Franco Baldini

because it's takes months of scouting and background work for us to sign a player and he turned up in the same transfer window as most of them

For all the good that has done, they might as well have let me sign the players after watching motd for a few weeks. I think I'd have got a better midfielder than Paulinho and a better defender than Chiriches. Infact, we already had them at the club, so the scouts might as well have gone on holiday. I'll take 10% of the £30million or so that they cost though, the club still comes out way ahead. :)

We've covered this a billion times before, KD. The gap between him arriving and some of the signings mean that it is unlikely that they were players identified by him. I think that it is more likely that the players signed at the end of the window when Chelsea gazzumped us on Willian were his.

Despite the rumours for months that he was coming?

Despite the fact that he would/should have a list of players that would be useful for clubs. I would have thought when we signed him we got his knowledge and computer files with list of players etc.

Despite the fact that we tried to sign a player this year and when we did not we went and signed another midfielder pretty quickly.

I think they would have been Baldini's signing's but as we could not get Bale to sign he had to think quickly on his feet to spend the money after pressure from Levy. That he would be under pressure from Levy is no excuse for getting so many wrong.

Also we did not sign anyone unknown, all of them except for Chadli I had even heard of so they were not unknown players. They were just ill suited to our league. As assistant England manager for years I would have expected him to have had a better idea of what was needed in our league.

From the latest meeting between the trust and the club:

4. Club structure/ player recruitment strategy

Relating to the Director of Football role, THFC pointed to Southampton, Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea all working to this model

THFC confirmed that player recruitment was a collaborative process where the Head Coach would identify the positions where cover was needed. The D of F and scouting team would then provide names from which the Head Coach would make his final choice

Looks like AVB was lying then! :)

Milo refuses to accept any of this...he simply ignores it mate.

Paulinho - we were in negotiations before Baldini joined - has said himself he was an AVB target;
Chadli - Supposedly been tracked by the club since playing against us in the Champions League;
Soldado- was linked to us under Redknapp in fact I believe we had previous bids rejected looks like we were weighing up him or Damiao for years trying to get the price or situation of either to come within acceptable boundaries;
Capoue - Honestly have no idea about this one seemed to come from left field a bit may have been anyone's recommendation but I note he went straight in AVB's team;
Chiriches- no idea again but I'm sure their president said something about Chelsea tracking him too so may have been on AVB's radar for a while;
Eriksen- been tracked by Spurs for ages if you believe Sherwood. Typical Levy deal

2bh I wouldn't be surprised if it was only Lamela that Baldini pushed for

Chiriches = Roma target previously
Paulinho = Roma target previously
Lamela = played for roma

soldado was a target under Redknapp? Chadli fast tracked by the club since playing against us?

I think Levy's plan A is that Baldini will be let go at the end of the season in favour of Monchi.

Remember http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...ghlyrated-sevilla-talent-spotter-9790913.html

He's currently living in London and his contract with Sevilla is up at the end of the season.

"But last year he spent the majority of the season in London, conducting his business from a rented flat there and learning to speak English."

Typical Spurs; pay peanuts and you get Monchis

They would have been Baldini's signings; AVB's signings; Levy's signings; Sherwood's signings; and anyone else who was on the "transfer committee".

But to the extent that each member of the committee had a role in each individual signing, I expect that Baldini would have suggested Lamela and Chiriches; Soldado and Paulinho would have been AVB's choices; and Eriksen was long touted by Sherwood. Chadli and Capoue? I've no idea!

Paulinho was also long targeted by AVB, even when he was at Chelsea iirc.

Interesting on Paul Mitchell

This bit especially for me

Mitchell, as head of recruitment, had already identified Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic in the Eredivisie as transfer targets before Dutch manager Ronald Koeman arrived at Southampton.

Similarly, when important first-team players like Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren left the club in the summer, Mitchell had already identified high-quality replacements from across Europe. This knowledge meant the Saints were ready to move as soon as players left. High-profile players like Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane were also recruited, leaving the squad with arguably more depth than before.

What am I ignoring? You can be a little intransigent yourself on occasions, are you prepared to consider that he was not responsible for identifying all of our signings last summer?

Paulinho wasn't a Roma target as far as I was aware he said himself it was AVB who asked the club to sign him
