Carlyle takeover, was Cain Hoy takeover

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Amen to all of that. And what GB said. Success via oil money (or similar) is not the success I want or would feel truly happy experiencing.

We're not winning nothing in the next ten years , maybe a cup if we get a decent run to the final, and in that final we don't have to play one of the top teams.

We will see our best players sold to our competitors the moment, we as a team become a threat to them .

Meanwhile the Spurs hierarchy will get richer on their fat cat wages ( Levy is on eight times his initial wage of twelve years ago ) whilst charging their exorbitant season ticket prices .

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Not really. Then we just become chavs. Money but no class. Fur coats and no knickers.

We're old money - the Man U of the south. We need to behave with more dignity.

There's quite a difference between not supporting managers who lacked integrity and were damaging the club, and not supporting a kid who has been at the club since he was 8, whose heart bursts with pride every time he steps onto the pitch.

Not if we have to become them to beat them. We hate Chelsea because of what they are, not who they are. I'd despair if we became what they are too.

Don't give me that, from day one you were against certain managers and never changed your stance one iota, before they had even managed a single game.

I hated Chelsea even before they won the lottery.

Agree with this. It's not that I want to go down that route, but it's virtually the only way you can compete at the top these days. Hardly winning anything and losing our best players is getting old for me. I can see why people don't want to see us turn in to the next Emirates Marketing Project but just seeing us go for top 4 every season and fall at the last hurdle due to our propensity of bottling it is not fun.

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

well **** you back ;)

bought success is better than no success

Wow. That's pretty much the exact opposite of how I view the world (and was raised to view it). Always amazes me how sport can unite the most radically different of people. :)

Would you guys not take a new owner to put in the infrastructure to get this stadium done like yesterday and not saddle the club with debt, but still keep it within our means on player spend and FFP.

Thing is though, we can all paint an ideal scenario... some lifelong Spurs-fan billionaire buys the club; he builds a glorious new stadium (naming rights sold to his new company - "White Hart Lane Holdings"); he stresses long-term development, the historical values of the club and runs the entire thing in a dignified manner... encouraging fan input and not spending hundreds of millions on star players, but instead targeting resources as the manager sees fit while the club achieves success through organic growth, albeit seeded with the infrastructure investment of our new benefactor...

The question is not whether or not we'd want that. The question is whether or not all you "sell to a billionaire" crew would be happy to see somebody come to Spurs and do what Romanov did to Hearts. Because there is at least as big a chance of that happening if Levy sells. You think Romanov advertised his intentions before he arrived? Most Hearts fans were over the moon at first... finally they'd have the resources to compete with the Big Two... a Scottish Big Three was born. And how long did that last?

I think we are on the long road to success as it stands. And I have the patience to see it to the end. I understand the desire to take a short cut, but not to play dice with the entire future of Tottenham.

Hmm, I just can't see how we are going to leapfrog the clubs above us given their budgets compared to ours. Can't see all of them just sitting back while we catch them up.

Absolutely not. I've fallen out of love with football and if we ever went down that road Tottenham too. **** your Arab sugar daddies.

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Apart from Chelsea (needed raise profile massively in the west to escape the fate of his mate and mentor) and City (um not 100% sure but raising the profile in the west able to assert influence with a foothold in the country.... Or just today's version of champion race horse) what other rich owners have come in to the prem recently and done well for the clubs they brought? Who would be interested that has the money and motivation of Chelsea's or city's owners? We are more likely to get a galzier type owner... But without man u's financial power or recent success that will be a disaster for us.

You assume this financial bonanza surrounding football is going to last forever. In my view, all of the Russian and Middle Eastern money will be out of football within 10 ten years. The entire political landscape of those areas is changing and I suspect we will see at least two major premiership teams (Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project) get sold to dedicated asset strippers at some point.

And by that point - if we stay on Levy's road - we'll have been in a 61k-seater stadium for 5 years, have a solid fanbase and almost no debt. We'll be regulars in the Champions League within 3 years in my view and will be described as one of the Big Four, along with Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool by the end of the decade. We'll do the double in 2021. And the 2020's will be for Spurs what the 1990's were for Man Utd.

As a Spurs fan, that's the best future I can hope for my club. The risks associated with trying to shortcut the process are just too damn big for me. I've been a fan since the 70s, I can wait another 5 years. This absurd billionaire-produced financial bubble that football is living in cannot and will not last. And I don't want Spurs to be a casualty when it bursts. Better to build a club prepared to take advantage of the aftermath.

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Probably not in his lifetime, but he's moving us in the right direction.

It would be hollow doing it through doping though.

The gratification would be much so much more if we did it with integrity and through organic growth. The Athletico or Dortmund, even the Arsenal, route.

Tbh, the state of our fanbase, I don't think we deserve to be contenders. The idiot entitlement lot at home league games who boo Townsend don't ever deserve to see us do well. Until the 1882/UEFA and away games/King testimonial mentality permeates through, we won't progress as a club.

This man speaketh the sense.

I do not look at anything that Chelsea or City have achieved with any envy whatsoever. Wanting a billionaire in is for me just another sign of the win-at-all costs mentality that has crept into the game today. That and wanting a negative manager like Benitez in the summer. Those two things would have been entirely dismissed here a good 10 years ago.

It is about the journey as much as it is about the destination for me. Personally, I'm content with the slow and steady progression we currently find ourselves in, a progression of which there have been clear signs of in the past 5 seasons or so.

Who is this American consortium, never heard of them before but now Cain Hoy are confirming their interest..??

Tottenham Hotspur takeover: Cain Hoy confirm interest in buying Spurs

American private investment company Cain Hoy reveal they have until October 10 to make a firm offer for Tottenham, which owner Joe Lewis values at nearly £1bn

Cain Hoy have confirmed their interest in buying Tottenham Hotspur and now have until October 10 to make a firm offer or pull out.

As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Thursday evening, Cain Hoy, a private investment company, have made a preliminary approach regarding a Tottenham takeover on behalf of a group of United States businessmen.

Cain Hoy have now released a statement confirming their interest and the timeframe in which they must make a firm bid.

Tottenham owner Joe Lewis is believed to value the club at just under £1billion and it remains to be seen whether Cain Hoy can negotiate a price with chairman Daniel Levy.

A Cain Hoy statement said: “Cain Hoy Enterprises, LLC ("Cain Hoy") notes the recent speculation in relation to a potential approach to Tottenham Hotspur Limited ("Tottenham Hotspur").

“Cain Hoy confirms that it is at the preliminary stages of assessing a cash offer for Tottenham Hotspur. Cain Hoy's considerations are at an early stage, and there can be no certainty that any offer will ultimately be made or at what price any offer might be made.

“In accordance with Rule 2.6(a) of the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers (the "Code"), Cain Hoy must, by not later than 5.00 p.m. on 10 October 2014, either announce a firm intention to make an offer for Tottenham Hotspur in accordance with Rule 2.7 of the Code or announce that it does not intend to make an offer, in which case the announcement will be treated as a statement to which Rule 2.8 of the Code applies. This deadline will only be extended with the consent of the Takeover Panel (the "Panel") in accordance with Rule 2.6(c) of the Code.

“This announcement has been made without the consent of Tottenham Hotspur. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Cain Hoy’s interest is being led by its London-born and based head of European investment, Jonathan Goldstein, and American entrepreneur and private equity investor Henry Silverman.

Both 48-year-old Goldstein and 74-year-old Silverman are ex-employees of Guggenheim Partners. In his former role as vice chairman of asset management at Guggenheim, Silverman helped to appoint Goldstein as head of real estate and direct investment in Europe in January.

Cain Hoy Enterprises was formed with the support of – and a minority, non-controlling investment from – Guggenheim. But Guggenheim are not behind the approach to buy Tottenham and both Goldstein and Silverman are understood to have left the company.

Absolutely. It is important to remember that ever bubble bursts. At some point the money coming into the game will slow down and the casual fans will spend their money on something else.

So basically, they've met, and stopped talking - but, since said meeting(s), Cain Hoy decided to press ahead and look at actively purchasing the club. This has serious legs.

I really hope all this puts a fire rocket up Levy and Lewis's ar$e to get things moving and done regarding the stadium.

I suspect it was more likely that they made an enquiry about buying the club, Levy has named a very high price, they are considering whether to meet the price, make a lower offer or walk away.
