Official - Holtby

Would be a good move for Holtby.

Haven't felt like he's ever had an extended run in the side, so never been fully able to show us what he's got. Unfortunately for him we've had a glutton of CMs in our squad ever since he joined us. Has always given his all when asked too.

Unfortunately, I do not think that at this stage of his career he has much to offer other than trying hard. I do not think that he is disciplined enough to play at the base of midfield and he is not creative enough to challenge for a starting place further forward. I think that a move is probably best for him because I cannot see him getting enough chances with us to improve.

Best move for everyone involved.

Worth remember when he was signed he was seen as the one who could unlock defences. That's how much we were struggling until Bale stepped up.

Would be a shame to see him go, simply because I dont really feel him had a run in the team to establish himself. Also worked hard and had a great attitude. Accept what others say thugh about questions over whether he had the raw abilities or not to succeed at this level

Who would you give him a run in the team at the expense of?

Agreed.

Would have loved to have seen him make it with us. But he was never really given the chance - and we will have to trust his various managers' judgement on that. He needs to be playing so better for him to move.

Best of luck to him if he does. Hope he rediscovers his form.

I'd like to know why we bought him, and speeded it up as well when we could have bought him in the summer of 2013 for free.

The Holtby transfer will always remain a strange one for me seeing as we refused to buy a striker when we knew Defoe and Adebayor's limitations and seemed to push more effort to buy Holtby instead of say Negredo who could well have secured the extra few points to get us CL that year...

Good luck to Holtby if he does go this window

If I remember correctly, we sped it up because all our other midfielders at the time were injured.

I think it was only Sandro that was the main injury; however we had Scott Parker who returned though I guess Thudd was also injured.

No matter the midfield injuries it was the striker problem that was the greater concern, especially after Defoe was injured - when we then sped up the Holtby transfer! Strange..

Personally I'm gutted. He's an excellent player that should be starting ahead of Bentaleb.
I cannot understand this. I cannot remember him having a single good competitive game in central midfield.

I think that he has shown a lot effort in his time with us but not much more and certainly not enough to displace any of the first 11.

How many games did he play in CM?
Who were his partners?
What made him look poor?

Well if he's had two managers decide he's not good enough to be selected at CM because there is better then that says it all.

He wasn't even that good on loan at Fulham where you think he would have thrived...

Two managers who were decided 'not good enough' and have since departed the club?

I thought he played well at Fulham.

I wasn't including AVB so that actually makes three, and Im not sure either of those sackings wouldnt of occured if Holtby had played CM.

Both Sherwood and now Poch have preferred Bentaleb in CM, and its easy to see why....

Magath at Fulham also thought he was much more suited to a number 10 role than a deeper central midfield role.

The only time he excelled in central midfield for us as far as I can remember was against Young Boys when he was playing alongside Tom Carroll in central midfield after our sending off iirc.

He has a lot of ability that should make him suited to that role, not convinced that he's ready for it at this point though.
