Etienne Capoue

I highly doubt Lamela will be sold in the summer, because of the blow that would be to Levy's pride: however, Capoue is probably gone. If that means reintegrating Livermore (home-grown, came through our ranks and is quite good, judging by his performances at Hull this year), then it's not too bad. Unfortunate for Etienne, but that's the way it is.

It is always different playing at a midtable or lower team compared to a club competing for the top 4. Sigurdsson looked like a world beater at Swansea, Rose looked good at Sunderland, Townsend at QPR, Holtby at Fulham. Just because they look good at these teams doesn't mean they meet the standards we are looking for, though I hope that Holtby actually might. Capoue is on a different planet to Livermore ability wise, it would be a huge downgrade.

There's a player in Capoue.

I think theres a very high chance that Paulinho will go. If so Capoue will be needed alongside Sandro. But whats with our injuries!

Livermore has always struck me as a midfield battler who has better agility than Capoue and Sandro. I'm not sure where I stand on the DM subject but the way Sandro picks up injuries these days makes it hard to depend on him

i thought capoue had a good game before naughton got sent off in against Wham.
not sure what to make out of his performance at CB as Kaboul was awful and unpredictable at the same time.

Has looked on his way back to the kind of form he showed at the start of last season, long may it continue!

I really like him. And if we're in trouble he still does a job at CB,its obvious he's a very good player. Some seemed to of judged him last season from when he was playing half fit, or at CB....

I thought Cap played well v West Ham. When he joined, one reason I was realy happy about it was that he could play CB as well, given our problems in that area.

Then when he did play CB, it didn't look like he could deal with the 'English game'

But on Saturday he did deal with it, indeed one of the arch proponents of that style, Monsieur Allerdici.

I so hope Cap can now go on and be a success with us. If he can cover at CB, that means along with Daws, Dier and Jan we have four CBs who can perform well in the Prem and/or Europe. I am worried about Kab though. I think Milos V can also perform decently for us in some Europe/Cup games.

he played ok before naughts got sent off, but he is not a great back up CD and could've cost us against better oppo - case in point Nolan's backheel to Downing, Capoue had the chance to clear it but fluffed it allowing downing to almost get through, but for the quick wittedness of Hugo behind him.

the quicker verts gets back to full fitness (or Chiriches for that matter), the sooner we wo't have to rely on makeshift CDs. at least Dier showed he can play ok centrally, though I would stick him in at rb for the foreseeable, let Naughts play the europa league games.

Not sure where that leaves Daws though? Considering Poch preferred dropping Capoue in rather than bringing Daws on. Transferred out i presume?

I hope not. I think Daws would have started yesterday but for his injury. I expect him to start one or maybe both of the next two games.

Jake was much maligned here, but I think he'd have been a fine squad player for sure...

Maybe he did it because he did not want to remove an attacking player and also use a substitute so early in the match

shows poch's commitment to attacking football.
in a sense the red card was fortuitous - poch's gamble paid off and we won against the odds overcoming a stubborn rival. this should galvanize the club/team/fans around poch even more.

and players like dier, bentaleb and capoue who stayed on...demonstrates his faith in yet unproven players.

but not playing a number of senior players when they are available - guess we'll have to wait for the end of the silly season to find out!

Fantastic performance from Capoue. Not only was he tackling all over the pitch (without into the referee's book) but his positional sense was spot on, always available for a pass from teammates under pressure. His distribution was also good switching play continuously to Dier and Rose to open new space for our attacks.

I guess today settles the argument who is our best defensive midfield pivot.

Pass, pass, pass... good to see we might finally have a proper pivot!

@EPLStatman: Etienne Capoue made 121 passes against QPR - 89% were accurate (@StatsZone Image) #THFC #Spurs

You can see why Poch needed players to get a full preseason build up. Its not just about fitness. Its about getting players confident and used to his system. We've watched the steady transformation of Capoue from first preseason game from rusty to fully match sharp. Do we need Schneiderlin? Not if he costs a lot of DLs money. Capoue can be just as good.

Good point - if only Poch can pull off the ultimate magician's trick and pull out the Paulinho we saw at the Confederations Cup last year... He and Capoue would be outstanding!

Capoue has completed 170 passes this season, more than any other player in the Premier League.

The great thing is that With Capoue in Midfield and Dier at Right back we have 4 Centre backs in the defence at set pieces, add into that Ade and Nacer and we have a tall team who should do well at set peices both defending and attacking. Although today I thought Caulker could have had 2 goals.
