ITK Thread

If we didn't need schneiderlin for example because Poch thought what we had was ok or that he would be no bettr than the midfielders we have already then we would not be in for him. He had the most interceptions in the entire Pl last season iirc, he is a good tackler and therefore protects the back line well exactly what we didn't have last season. I like Sandro but he is injury prone. Capoue as I have said many times before does not convince me especially against quick passing teams. Schneiderlin is exactly what we need IMO.

I agree. He is Carrick-like in his play and that's exactly what we need, and obviously is well versed in Poch's methods so would be already ahead of the curve in terms of integrating with the team. Can you say Schniederlin would be the difference between CL or no CL? Obviously that is impossible to say one way or the other. Would he be a better option than one of our current midfielders then the answer for me is most definitely yes, and more than likely he would start every match.

This makes me laugh. Love it. Sums up all that is wrong with the BPL and modern football culture. GHod, imagine relying on last summer's massively expensive signings? Surely the huge investment we made last summer in players that struggled to hit the ground running should be chucked in the bin this summer and a load more money spent on equally expensive new toys to get excited about, before they too struggle to get to grips with the PL in their first season.

We have a lot of quality in the squad already. The key for me was to shore up parts of the squad like left-back and centre-back. Ben Davies is a solid signing and Eric Dier is another good investment. Everyone was really excited by Soldado last summer. People say "we need a new striker". We bought a £26m goal machine last summer, we're gonna bin him off now because he struggled last season? He's looked really sharp in pre-season. Same with Lamela.

There's no great urgency this summer as we haven't lost anyone we didn't want to. So we're playing the waiting game for the right players.
Agree with some of your sentiments. However, in the midst of your laughter, haven't you been a critic of Soldo in the past? Didn't you previously assert that Soldo was a 'terrible, terrible signing' and that we should cut our losses and get rid? Are you saying you are now of the belief that we don't need another striker?

I wasn't really excited by Soldado's signing. I don't know much about Continental football, so am normally happy to wait to see how they do for us. Ditto Lamela.

A whisper about Crystal Palace sniffing around has reached The Goat. Sadly no specific names were given.

ali z on musacchio: Deal is not dead

For me the signing of Ruiz from Valencia points to the deal eventually happening, you don't sign a replacement if you are truly intending to keep a player!

would just like to point out that this tells us absolutely nothing.

Seems interesting that the ITK's have gone quiet as of the past few days. We really haven't heard anything insightful or meaningful since we picked up Dier. Would love to know more about what Poch thinks of the players returning from the WC. Specifically Dembele and Paulinho.

Definitely.

I think it's pretty quiet because we are only working on 3 incoming deals, and they are all poised, waiting for other things to fall into place:
- Yedlin for the summer work experience kid to update the website
- MM for Villareal to conclude their negotiations with River Plate
- MS for Soton to get a few more in to appease their fans

I think the first two will probably happen this week, and the latter on deadline day

Schneiderlin spotted in London today (with luggage), hopefully out looking for a new flat:
