The Goon Thread

Everyone was blown away by them signing Ozil last summer too. It doesn't always work out like that.

I think that they are ahead of us (just) but they have really pushed their luck these last few seasons and at some stage it will not go their way.

Sanchez is a much more superior player, proven world class. 21 goals last season from the right flank and he did not start every week while he is by far the best player for his country and has been consistently for a few years

I think Sanchez has a better mentality than Ozil. I hope I'm wrong but I think they've moved beyond competing with us right now but things can change quickly I football. Big thing is though with Ozil and now Sanchez, Wenger has shown he is finally willing to splash big on players.

I would actually go as far as to say for the first time in a long time, I could see them winning the title. Makes me sick a little.

They were just ahead of us last year. If they keep signing a superstar every summer, they will zoom away from us and we won't catch up by the time the NDP is completed.

I think that they would need to sign players that address their weaknesses to do that. As good as Sanchez is, this is another signing in an area where they are already strong.

i agree with milo

i'll also add that for me he always flattered to deceive at Barca, never really looked like he deserved to be there, i think he played brilliantly in the world cup though

regarding the khedira rumour that would scare me more, had he not had the injury this season i don't think Madrid would have thrown the league away like they did

we dropped back a long way last season, if we go into next year thinking we are gonna challenge them whilst our new manager implements his system we're gonna be disappointed imo, 5th should be celebrated

Sanchez or Walcot/Podoski? I know whom I would go for every single time

Are you having a laugh? 39 goals in 88 league matches and you think he flattered to deceive? Wow.

I wish our attackers flattered to deceive like that

You can never have too many goalscorers and creators.......Ferguson made sure every season his team had enough goals in it to win/challenge for the title. That's what makes the diference

how many of those goals were crucial goals though? (i genuinely don't know, i'm going on my recollections from games on Sky)

it always seemed to me he was a guy that started against lower ranked opposition or came on in games that were already won to add the 4/5/6 goal of the game, i don't remember (and i'm sure others who have watched Barca more can probably correct me) ever seeing Messi not be able to crack a defence so they turned to Sanchez instead

as Barca forwards go he's more in the Bojan/Dos Santos envelope than the Messi or Eto'o one imo, if a year ago you'd said to me Spurs were looking at Soldado and Sanchez I would have much preferred Soldado

Its funny, we waxed lyrical about Lamela when he joined but when a proven player who performed and proved it at the world cup joins our rivals automatically 'he is ****' (paraphrasing here).

Whilst it doesnt really solve their issues I am sure that Wenger isnt stupid and will get in a Khedira type player.

Great signing and one that definitely pushes them towards being proper challengers. If they were to sign Khedira and get a decent RB and back up CB then they could challenge on all fronts IMO.

We don't need to be looking at them though, we are now not directly competing with them for a CL place anymore. We need to bide our time, make a few signings to strengthen the team/squad in key positions like CF, LWF and LB and if Lamela/Eriksen/Soldado have good seasons then we could be close to doing something decent.

Personally, I would like us to play some lovely football that i enjoy, get the best out of those 3 players and try to win a cup.

And yet like Messi and Eto'o (in his prime) he is both captain/leader and best outfield player for his national team.

I understand what you mean, alas the last time we won a cup our first choice strike force decided to dump us for CL teams.

I feel until we get CL football there is a certain calibre of proven players we will continue to miss out on. Even with Lloris we were lucky CL teams like PSG were not making a bid for him at the same time.

For now I would rather make CL so as to help us progress in the long run. I was annoyed last time we started our CL campaign with Pav and Crouch instead of investing in a quality striker

fair enough, opinions etc etc, you obviously rate him much higher than i do

another opinion of mine would be that Vidal is Chile's best player, and couldn't you say that Dos Santos is Mexico's best outfield player?

i'm not sure roles in a national team mean anything, look at Togo, Adebayor is everything to them and we all know from experience that he's ****ing ****
