General Transfer Discussion Thread

Re: Transfer Rumours

Bony for me over Lukaku, based purely on what I have seen of both this season and especially recently. Lukaku has a bit of a lazy streak in him which is rather annoying. I'm sure he'd boil my **** if he played for Spurs. Bony took a while to settle but really looks the part now. It's a more realistic purchase as well considering the selling clubs.

Re: Next Spurs Manager v.2

Well I want Garay, but alongside Vertonghen not instead of him. I don't see why we're all obsessed with replacing our best/good players on this board, why can't we keep them and replace the poor ones? I don't think any of those are quicker than Vertonghen by the way and I don't see it as a critical quality as long as the team is set up right. The likes of Cahill, Terry and Mertesacker have been amongst the best in the league this season but none are quicker than Vertonghen imo.

In an ideal world it would be with Vertonghen but my own personal view and nothing more is that Vertonghen doesn't really want to be here and it is something I have felt about his displays since it started to go downhill around November time. He seems to me as someone that doesn't want to fight but would rather give up and have the final whistle blow rather than try and battle for a result based on how he has been this season. He thinks he is above us imo and for that reason i would be more than happy to see him go.

I want players who want to play for us, players who show a better and more determined attitude throughout a season for us, even if the season isn't going that well.

I agree with you about the players you mention in terms of their recovery not being better, if at all than Vertonghen but the one thing those players have that Vertonghen doesn't and means they don't have to recover as much or be as last ditch is that they love defending. They love doing the dirty stuff, the sort of work that leads to another clean sheet rather than an extra 5 passes on their game stats. Vertonghen plays in defence but he is not a defender in the natural sense of the term, not by a long stretch.

Re: Next Spurs Manager v.2

I'd take Lescott

I would take Lescott and Milner if they were both available. I tell you this, if we signed those two and got Garay to play CB and Bony in as well then the squad would be infinitely more balanced than it currently is and in a very good position to push on from this wreck of a season.

A bit of a winners experience and pedigree with those two and Garay would do us the world of good.

Who would you look to move on to make space for them?

Re: Transfer Rumours

Sell Kaboul or Daws. Get in Garay or Lescott. Or if someone knows a good right sided central defender

Sell Siggy, go for Konoplyanka.

Sell Soldado, get Lukaku or Bony

Need a left back too. Shaw is prob too much

Re: Transfer Rumours

He asked who a good right sided cb was.

Yeah and I answered.

No defender will look good with this chocolate teapot midfield in front of them. No idea where this Lescott love in has come from either, have any of you lot seen him lately? No? Well there's a reason for that.

As much as I hate him, Cole's experience would be hard to top

Indeed, he's at a club that has spent billions.

Yet Lescott cost more than their other three CBs combined so that argument doesn't really wash. In the few games he's actually played this season he's looked like bambi so was quickly dropped again. I think people underestimate systems, Chelsea played some kid today who'd never played a PL game before in his life, away to rampant Liverpool and he puts in a solid performance, not because he's better than all of our defenders, but because he's in a setup that doesn't leave their defenders woefully exposed like ours.

Bit of an assumption that all us people underestimate systems. In fact most people bang on about it all the time, that we're not as bad as we look sometimes.

They signed him at the point where they were trying to step up and paid a premium. That does not make him a bad player and I'd struggle to think of a better Premier League experienced central defender who could be available this summer.

I would move on Vertonghen and still take both Garay and Lescott. Dawson is someone would play in Europa Group stages and certain league games but certainly wouldn't be first choice. Kaboul would still be in my plans but needs a consistent run of fitness so depth is important.

Lescott can cover LB as well as CB so I would sell Rose and Naughton and bring Ekotto back unless we could secure a really decent option at LB.

I would probably look to move on one of Holtby/Sigurdsson in order to make space for Milner. Milner can play central or wide in a 4 or 3 so I quite like his versatility and work ethic. That will bring us something different to what we have at the moment. I also would move on Capoue as well, not sure he is good enough and not just another replica of what we already have.

I wouldn't sell anyone up top to accomodate Bony, I think we need 3-4 forwards and this season has proved it where we have been on a knife egde with Adebayor being an injury away from us dropping much further down the table.

Thanks. How would this fit in with the squad limit (I cannot remember whether we have any spare spaces this season)?

It's a shame no one remembers when we were racking up the clean sheets then, it was half a season ago though so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Maybe our defenders have just lost all ability to defend in that time, that's the only possible explanation. We best go buy some new ones.

Re: Transfer Rumours

The Bony love in is something very weird. The guy to me looks like some utter battering ram brute of a striker that doesn't possess much else but good heading and a good shot. I don't really like these 'hit hard and hope' sort of strikers tbh.
