omt tottenham v juandes dinopros

At 9.32 tonight you try telling me or anyone in the Lane tonight the Europa league don't matter. It's not the Champions league but our club was built on nights of passion and adversity like this. I'd rather be watching my team in it than someone else's. I remember the dark days when Europe was a distant dream. And for many decent sides it still is. We're luckier than we think.

No doubt. I remember going up to Boro needing to win to get in the Uefa Cup and it being like a final!

Was that under Jol near the end of 04/05? I remember that :) beach balls bouncing around the away end and the fans singing "we're all going on a European tour"...and then we lost 1-0 to a George Boateng deflected shot. Typical Spurs!

The irony of Ade. He scores then walks over to the crowd pointing at the ground saying "This is my house."

Having been dropped for a few months because he spent too long at his house instead of turning up at training. :ross:

Ohhhhh Scara! Come on. The man was dealing with family and all the while hired a personal trainer to keep him in shape whilst back in Togo. Lets stick with the facts matey ;-)

Yup. Felt horrific at the time right?

He is a player, like Lennon, who needs a few games after injuries to rev up...Konoplynka would be the next Arshavin here...

No way. How could you possibly know that? Based on every time I've seen him, (not many) he has been outstanding, serious talent

Got out of jail again. Sending off helped massively but I can't understand why it took that to raise the tempo. Benfica are not the side they were, even last season but they will punish us with how well they keep the ball if we are as lacksadaisical against them.

What summed it up for me was how we had a free kick, late in the first half over near the left touch line but about 5 or so yards in. We sent the CBs up and then proceeded to square it to Sandro to blast over. Dnipro get a free kick in the same area, send the CBs up, swing the ball into a dangerous area for 3-4 players to attack and its 0-1. Sometimes I wonder if our players actually think about even the most basic things before doing them.

It did because there was lots of optimism around the ground beforehand. It looked like we'd blown it in March - seem to remember us losing at Charlton and a home which seemed to put us off the pace but we made a late run out of nowhere and then blew it - 2nd last game I think it was... Still its been good times since then and I think, despite what has looked on the surface a poor season, it still makes you appreciate what we have now.

I think Konoplyanka would cut it in the EPL, but I think if he was doubled up on would struggle,. No doubt he's got the ability but my original point is that tonight Townsend showed a lot more than he did. No doubt if he played in a better team like Liverpool he would do very well.

Have to agree with Diego. I do wonder if Konoplyanka would settle here as Russians/Ukranians haven't fared well generally but that would be his only barrier. I think his game would suit the Premier League and he would be a very good signing for anyone in the top 6. He would give us some much needed balance on the left hand side even though he does like to cut in as he is two footed and can go outside.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Man Utd go in for him and snatch him away from both Liverpool and us in the summer, thats if we were truly interested.

Wow. It is amazing what people see. I thought for the most part, Townsend was pretty average. Few nice touches and beating of men in non dangerous areas but nothing else. Konoplyanka looked a danger each time he got the ball and obviously had 2-3 pretty strong efforts on goal that caused us problems.

Great game. The second half delivering after a tense first.

Are we the only English team to have won in Europe in this latest round of games?

Well that was an unexpectedly enjoyable night!

The first half was uber dull, I almost fell asleep! Neither team really looked like they fancied scoring. Then BAM, minute in to the second half and it's 0-1. Poor defending, the free kick was a mile away. Still, good character shown to come back but the red card definitely gave us extra momentum so I'm not sure how the game would have panned out otherwise, it was well poised that's for sure. Not that I'm complaining, I'm just pleased we're in the next round and a trip to Portugal looms.

Agreed, I'd rather be in it than not. Plus, we now have the depth in the squad to better handle the EL. With the money we spent, I wish we had gone for more 'quality' over 'quantity', but one thing it did bring is more depth for EL games. If you don't have EL, and you go out of domestic cups early, then its harder to find playing time for all those players you bring in and try to develop/integrate.

Come on stop fooling yourselves, if we keep coming out like we did tonight in the first half or play like we did on sunday we are due another hiding. Yes we won, yay great, but we will not get away with these lacklustre performances against the likes of chelsea, arsenal and liverpool.

Seriously?? Townsend showed more than Konoplyanka tonight? We can't have been watching the same game.

This guy looks insanely good
