AVB & Spurs Tactics and Formations discussion thread

I'm not going to bothere getting into the argument but I've never heard of someone needing to have the first word before.

Formations have been poor but the personnel used has been terrible. What on earth was today about? Modric on the left? Do Barcelona put Xavi on the left? Do Man utd put Scholes on the left? Sandro and Parker in the middle? Wtf? And Bale on the right, left to roam as and when he wishes? And stayed there, even as VDV came on? So many strange decisions by Redknapp recently, especially today.

It's no good dominating possession in total % , when you can't get out of your own half for 45 of the 90 minutes.

Territorial advantage purely in Evertons favour too.

The people who argue we "dominated" the game makes me laugh out loud. Even my Missus could see we got battered.

Her only question to me was telling - 'Why don't Tottenham players go for the ball earlier, the blue ones get there first every time'.

i kind of get lining up with Sandro and Parker in the middle away from home, but not at the expense of playing Modric out of position - could have had Modric in front of those two and played Bale and Vdv out wide if you wanted to go hard to beat (or any other of the different options available)

Absolutely. Sandro and Parker in the middle together in and of itself is not a bad thing but not by themselves. We need Modric in there as well, someone who can both pass the ball well and carry it forward. Effectively, we had one injury in midfield today and Redknapp decided to change the whole thing.

This isn't even anything new. Last season we were up and around the top 3/4, infact I'm pretty sure a win away to Blackpool would have put us 3rd. Yet for some reason Harry decides to drop the VDV/Crouch partnership and go 442. Infact, from that point on, we went 442 for the majority of the remaining games and won something like 2 in 12. Are we going for the repeat?

Your comment could be seriously offensive to some of the older posters on here.

I thought there was a rule on here about personal attacks. Perhaps not

When it's directed at a man that has no boundaries in regards to some of the things he types it's perfectly fine. seriously offensive? yeh have a look at that posters posts in regards to death, race, sex everything really.

fudge me
I must have watched a different game from you lot

Typical Gutterboy reactions to the fact that we didn't score and had Defoe on the pitch............including the fact that 442 is the work of the devil.

I don't know if some of you rocket scientists have actually considered something fairly important. You can play whatever formation you like, if the opposition are capable, well organised and skilfull footballers, they can stop you from winning.

You can claim all of the formations you want are better than 442, but if the other team do their job, and we don't get the ball to the forwards often enough and quick enough, then we will struggle to win the game.

You cannot claim that VDV not playing was a mistake, because he has done nothing in recent games to prove that you are right, and he did nothing in his performance today to suggest that an earlier inclusion would have made a difference either.

Instead of all of you trying to win an internet tinkling contest, by making the stupid suggestion that if Harry had taken your advice we would have won, you might like to consider that no matter what the formation, they got lucky with their one clear shot on goal, and we didn't - and that if we had played any of the combo's and players you guys suggested, we still wouldn't have won, if we had played all night.

Get used to it - football isn't a fudging computer game, it has humans in it, and they have moods, form and luck to contend with.

Some of you lot live in cyber lala land, and have lost the ability to think clearly

His standard is an 8/10 with all the linking up, passing and runninghe does. He's not had a 9 or 10 where he leads the team single handedly by the scruff of the neck for a while though I'll admit.

Not really, because he Bale and Lennon interchange a lot. It's more like a 4-2-3-1.

If so then it was all in the wrong parts of the pitch - certainly not their half.

Did you watch the second half?

Did you see Moyes screaming at his players to push up?

But it's not really is it? He accurately pointed out prior to the match everything that was wrong with the lineup. There's just no justification whatsoever for moving two of our most influential players out of position, not to mention leaving VDV on the bench. Anyone who isn't burying their heads in the sand could see what was going to happen with that lineup, if you honestly believe that playing your best players out of position has no effect on a team's performance then carry on blindly insulting anyone who believes otherwise.

That is waaaay to sensible. fudge off :)

The VDV part certainly isn't. We actually started to look like a cohesive unit with an ounce of fluency when he finally came on, i'd say he has a claim for being our best player despite only being on for 20 minutes.

Ah good old KD..ruining threads yet again. Your personal attacks in this thread, apart from being really poor, are really unnecessary. Proper chip on your shoulder it seems.

Back on topic and VDV made a massive difference to our play today hopefully hell stay injury free for the run in.
