Transfer Rumour Thread

A higher class of benchwarmer, so to speak. Like I said, I'll shoot my load a hundred times over if we sign Hazard or Llorente. But it's unlikely. Ergo, I am subconsciously conditioning myself by arguing on behalf of the types of players you list. They're not all bad, some good 'uns in there, potential, etcetera, etcetera. Consider it a peculiar Tottenham trait; after all, from Zidane to Ronaldo to Morientes, we are the masters of hyping a signing up and then failing miserable to secure him, so can you blame me for being cautious?

Why couldn't we sign Llorente or Hazard?

We're flush, on course for direct CL qualifiction - second one in 3 seasons, playing some great attacking football, new stadium on the way, fast growing global brand, based in London, etc.

We're no longer on par with Everton and Aston Villa, mate. Those days are long gone and we can most certainly entertain the likes of some of the top emerging players atm.

Yes, some of those players from the list are half-decent and can still improve a little, but most certainly will not improve us, considering our current squad and short/medium term outlines. So why spend money on 3 inferior products instead of inversting in a single proper one who would benefit the team exponentially more than any of those. Sorry, but I don't follow your logic on this one

We are 3 months away from entering our 4-5th transfer window since our first CL qualification having previously failed short for numerous reasons. Considering a Top 4 finish is 80% guaranteed I'd say now would be or chance to establish a firm foundation for future transfers by making a landmark capture. Not a half-kocked panic buy

You can be sure if Torres becomes available, Harry (if still our manager) will probably prefer him to Llorente.

I'm not saying it's right (would rather have Llorente any day), I'm just saying that is what would likely happen.

Torres looks lonely and rejected amongst those clowns. Some TLC from Krunchie and VdV would have him purring in no time

I think Torres would kick ass at WHL BUT only if Harry is Manager. I really do think Harry, who has resurrected many a career, is the only Manager who could give Torres his confidence back. Harry has a knack.

By the way - what the fudge is the friend request for? Stalker

Oh, and how long before we're linked with Pogrebnyak?

- average player on a good run of form - check
- can play as a striker - check
- plays for a lower team - check
- plays for a team to which we've sold before - check
- ex Spurs manager - check
- we've signed Russians before - check
- approaching the end of his career - check
- team plays in white - check

I was just thinking this the other day, I would put money on him being linked with us at the end of the season if not before

I'm sure 'Editor' at goal.com is busy oiling his keyboard and dusting his mouse pad from his lunch bread crums as we speak.

From Football365, via The Mail, probably pure guesswork and speculation but what the hell:

The man who managed to make a profit on Mido was never going to let Harry Redknapp slip quietly off to the England job, and if The Daily Mail has things right, Daniel Levy is getting out the big guns in his bid to keep his manager.

The paper reports that Levy will offer Redknapp a new four-year contract with a '?ú50million war chest' (for we all love a war chest) to persuade him to stay.

The paper still seems infuriated that the FA have not made their move for Redknapp, despite the disruption and unfairness that would cause to Tottenham.

The Mail reports: 'Tottenham, who have dropped out of the race for the Barclays Premier League title following back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United, are frustrated with the FA over their lack of movement.

'And Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be placing pressure on Redknapp to commit to White Hart Lane.'

But who would he spend that 'war chest' on? Well, according to the paper: 'Marseille striker Loic Remy and Lille winger Eden Hazard are top of Redknapp's wishlist, with both players open to the idea of a move to the Premier League in the summer.'

We were linked with the Pog before we ended up signing the Pav after Euro 2008. Some swore that we'd signed the wrong one, and perhaps they were right.

Looking at this career record, I'd say we dodged a nuclear missile

Cool surname though - translates roughly into the 'Undertaker', iirc

I got a few recently - so I send a few out to cover myself in case it's a conspiracy hoax

I have accepted you as a friend. I aimagine you look like the dog in your avatar - wonder if its true. So im gonna keep tabs on you

Is the 'war chest' for transfers or increased wages to keep Bale and Modric away from the G-8?
Well it mentions two players that the 'war chest' would be spent on at the end of the article. I doubt they know though, I think they just wanted to say 'war chest'!

He's playing 30 odd games a seaosn in a relegation battling team.

So is Rodallega. So is Ngog.

Put Rose and Gio in a similar context and they'll do much, much better, I'm willing to bet on that

The 30 odd game comment was about how many appearances in all comps I think he'd get at Spurs if we signed him as a Champs League club. You don't rate Hoillett higher than Rose or Gio for a wide midfielder place, that's fair enough, I personally think that's pretty mental, but I can see your on one the last couple of days ! It's entertaining.

Rose and Gio both had plenty of loan time at lower league clubs and were pretty average, I think they'd have loved to have been considered the standout player at a lower prem club.

Final point, we'd all love to sign Hazard, but upgrading the squad (Hoillett for Bentley and Gio) with players who might actually play, would cost less than half the wages and would create a profit on transfers, should not hinder any chance of that happening.
