Jan Vertonghen

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

When the only clubs we need to worry about are the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, I don't think there's much to worry about. Players come and go and if they go to clubs of that size we'll be getting tons of cash in return.

And just like bale modric and van der vaart replace him with an inferior player. Back to square one.

Re: Official -Verts

Jan Vertonghen believes Tottenham Hotspur can still beat the champions, Manchester United, on Sunday despite the side's 6-0 humiliation at Emirates Marketing Project on Sunday, with the Belgian claiming the defeat was "not a big problem".

Two goals each from Jesús Navas and Sergio Agüero, plus an Alvaro Negredo strike and a Sandro own goal consigned Tottenham to their heaviest Premier League defeat since 1996.

André Villas-Boas's side crumpled from the moment Navas started the rout after only 14 seconds. Yet Vertonghen, who played at left-back in Danny Rose's absence through injury, said: "It is not a big problem. Of course we didn't play well but we are better than this. We can solve the problem.

"We will talk and bounce back on Sunday against Manchester United. It is a good thing we play Manchester United next [in the league]. We play at home. I know we have the support of our crowd and we can win that game on Sunday."

The defender did admit that the players were upset at the display. "It is very disappointing. We came here for a better result than this," he said. "It is a shame we end up losing 6-0. We came here with a good motivation and for a good result. If you concede a goal after 15 seconds it is a bad thing if you want to win. We did well after that but then we conceded a second goal and it became a very difficult game for us."

Manuel Pellegrini's side have now amassed 26 league goals in six games at the Etihad Stadium, with Wigan Athletic also being beaten 5-0 in the Capital One Cup and CSKA Moscow 5-2 in the Champions League there.

"Emirates Marketing Project score a lot of goals at home but we gave three or four of them away too easily," said Vertonghen. "That is our own fault. They are a very strong team but I would love to play this game again next week because we are better than this. Everybody was fit. We have had the internationals but we play European games as well so that was not a problem.

"We are very disappointed. We felt we could do something here. We need to talk with the group but everybody is motivated for the rest of the games."

Best part out of many good comments from Super Jan!

So easy to let your head drop, so easy to feel sorry for yourself and scared of the opposition. Rare to see someone wishing that they could play again against an opponent that just hurt them as badly as City hurt us. Shows a lot of belief and a lot of confidence. To say that after the end to the game that he had, with that dreadful mistake for their 6th goal is really strong I think.

If we played next week the chances are they would still beat us, we would still not create chances although one thing is for certain - we wouldnt have been beaten 6-0. But what the ****? im sure anyone could say yeah lets play the sam egame next week - it will be different. I mean Italy in the world cup final, or what about Brazil etc etc etc

Just like chances were that they would beat us this weekend, they were favorites after all.

Not really sure what your point is, quite possibly anyone could say that. My point is that I at least can't think of many players that have said that. Of course players would have wanted another go at a World Cup final, but to want another match against this City team away from home when they just crushed us to me speaks of a certain confidence, belief and optimism that I'm glad is there.

The papers will have that quote construed as "Vertonghen demands Swansea move" :)

What im trying to say is all this is bull ****. There are fundamental issues and rather than just say **** like 'if we play them next week it would be different' and rather than use bull**** statistics to provide an argument... lets just be ****ing honest and say something is funamentally wrong and its about time it was fixed. Simple really.

Beating around the bush time and time again.

Anyways.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Normally a huge Vertonghen fan but he was so lazy tonight. I know he's not a left back and doesnt like playing there but he could at least put in a bit of effort.
26 completed passes from a full back with his passing ability is shocking.

I have to agree. He was both bad and lazy tonight, and the two seem to go hand in hand with him. He made a few mistakes early doors and then he ended up getting the hump with himself or something. He did the same against City I thought.
He needs to be a bit more professional about it really and try harder when things are not clicking, not the other way around.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

I think he's trying to send AVB a message.
The only thing that Jan does well from the left is cross it, and that's if he's allowed space to run into.

Verts needs to sit a game out.

Yep, he definitely doesn't want to play out wide, and he knows he is superior to Daws... so he probably agreed to play wide for a bit while Rose recovered... which turned into 185 games in a row.

Looks like he'll be out for a while anyway, he twisted or sprained his ankle jumping over an ex-Gooner of all things... which probably means he needs both legs replaced or something

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Looks like he can no longer be bothered - whether that's because he realises AVB is a fool or whether its because he doesn't like playing left back is just guess-work

My biggest concern is that both JV and Lloris could move to Barca next summer - these are players who, alongside Sandro and a couple others, we should be building our team around

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Isn't Rose meant to be back soon?

Get Jan back in the middle and Dawson on the bench.

Does anyone thing Vlad can play LB and thus allow Jan to go back to CB? He is great on the ball, speedy when carrying it forward and can tackle too.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

The decision to let BAE go is seriously coming back to bite us on the ****.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

probably fatigued tonight, we all should give him the benefit of the doubt, the guy has been one of the overworked players.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

As I said in another thread he should have just landed on Senderos, then again he probably would've crippled himself from that too.

I think Chiriches can replace Jan if he goes in the summer. Lloris is the bigger issue. And people ask why some fans feel Champions League is a necessity
