*******TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS Saudi Sportswashing Machine OMT**********************

Completely agreed.

However, as I've mentioned before, there are 2 incredibly annoying extremes on this board. People who will be negative and go overboard on everything, regardless of what we see. And people who will be annoyingly, holier than thou positive on everything, to the extent that they will attack fans who dare to criticise and say negative things about the manager or the team.

We've now played 6 home games in the league so far this season. We've scored 5 in those games and picked up 10 points from a group of teams that I'm sorry, are not particularly impressive.

In many of those games (and in most of the away ones), our general attacking play has been poor (and yet until Defoe came on in the second half, I thought our attacking play was actually quite good. Where has that been so far? So we can do it? What the hell was the first half?).

People do realise that the team will need some time to gel. However, there has been little improvement as the season has gone on. Everytime we have looked like we might be turning a bit of a corner (Norwich, first half of Chelsea), we go back to the same dross.

So people have rightly been critical about already losing twice at home only 11 games into the season and being served up some ridiculously boring football. Yet the same individuals will come down hard on those (sometimes overly hysterical) people and criticise, act like a better fan etc etc.

Thing is mate, I don't need to look very far for positives on today. We played a poor first half today but ended oh testing their keeper more times than any other this season, and the most for a losing team since 2006/7. So it's clear to see where the positives are. Me being overly positive would be to say that the first half was great, when it clearly wasn't.

I think people do need to realise though that a season is ups and downs. These kind of days will happen to us and every other team. People also need to realise what we are trying to achieve. We probe, we play at a slow tempo but carried out right, it can lead us to looking very comfortable and not conceding much, giving us a nice platform to improve. That won't always happen though.

But absolutely NO strategy will lead to perfect football over the season, so people calling for AVB to go are misguided. So while we have positive and negative aspects of our play, we saw the negatives today and other teams are looking positive. But over the season, we will have great positives and other teams that are looking great now will have negatives. And sometimes, depending on the scale of change in a squad, it may take longer than a season. But a season is the main barometer.

So to be honest, I do think you are a better fan if you can exercise some patience and perspective after a match, rather than go for the players or the manager like a child would, or by having a go at other fans for having that perspective.

I repeat, being overly positive is claiming something obviously **** is actually good, eg our first half. Claiming that the world is not coming to an end after a very respectable fight back is thwarted by a goalkeeper in great form is not being overly positive to that extreme. It's perfectly normal and rational.

" he's the only one looking like an adult until Nexus showed up"

HA Ha tell that to my missus she reckons i really threw my toys out of the pram while watching the tv today.

Seriously I was incensed especially when Defoe came on. Like i said I detest the system we play under AVB. It worked for Chelski in Mourinhos first spell but they had better quality players all over the pitch then than we have now. Lots of top class players at their peak unlike our lot now. It would be interesting to see how we would be under another manger, but that is not going to happen. Trouble with keep changing managers is no consistency. Just the upheaval of managemet and coaching staff has an impact. Look at Man U, they have a title winning squad, but dot look half the team they were last year so far. But the season is still young and I am sure there will be lots of twists and turns before the end of the season

Well I truly hope that after the international break we won't ever play a game in the league without Sandro again. And Lamela starts from here on in.

Agree with that, a completely different side with sandro on. Townsend was poor today, but **** me sigurdsson was much worse, non existent and when he did get it he mostly ****ed up, has to be lamela for the next game.

Also let people vent. That's football. It's such fine margins this game. Could have easily been a different scoreline today.

Keep the faith, there will be pain to get to the managers eventual goal. High turnover in players, again, after last term for me explains partly the form and poor goal scoring record. The change of system too. AVB himself has of course attributed to it too, but he's learning, and I strongly believe you learn more from when you fail. Let's fail early and more importantly learn from this.

but the lack of form and lack of goals was there last season at home too

And we had a largely new team then too with Modric, VdV, Kranjcar, Pienaar, King etc leaving and Siggy, Dempsey, Dembele, Vertonghen, Lloris all joining. Bale papered over those cracks tbf

Why did he not start Sandro?

Surely a football genius like AVB can see the need to have a. Holder combatatuve midfielder against a team playing quite a high 4-3-3 system!!!! He is the best player in Europe at doing that yet we start with two meh tacklers and lose the game in that half!!!!!!!!!!

Last season we relied on Bale and this season we rely on penalties. I wonder what we're going to be relying on next season to cover up the performances?

Surely the players too are figuring each other out too. Sometimes it just clicks but in our case it hasn't and it's going to take some time it think. Which unfortunately means there will be a period of struggle. Look under Ramos how a team with the likes of Modric struggled so much. Yet as they all got used to one another and a huge shot of confidence from a good manager in Redknapp changed our fortunes so dramatically.

maybe in defence of AVB he is protecting Sandro from another long term injury when we will be fooked. Didn't he injure his hamstring vs Everton?
problem is with capoue out there is no cover for the holding midfield role. I stress we should not have let Thudd go and 4 peanuts

Tommy had to go for his own career tbh.

Capoue surely could have played. Paulinho looks knack erred. He was actually hiding from the ball today at times. Such a massive difference to the days of Modric. Miss him a lot

I have been reliably informed that Tim Krul made more saves today than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League for the last six seasons.

Why is it keepers always play out of their skins against Spurs?

yeah, i mean no keeper has ever played good against anyone BUT Spurs

A question for the ones who say we should part company with AVB, who is out there to replace him? I for one wants him to stay till the end of the season to see if he turns the team into a winning team.

Only just arrived here…has someone SERIOUSLY said that earlier in this thread???????? FFS. If they have, I hope they feel as stupid as they sound!
