OT - Wasted Potential... The Biggest Underachievers

Why didn't Tuncay ever make it bigger and better? Boy had skillz, but ended up benched at Stoke iirc.

In terms of trophies Le Tisser and Alan Shearer. Those guys could have fit in any team at that point, Shearer only ever won the League with Blackburn on that one occasion whilst Le Tisser won nothng. Mind you, they were VERY commited to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and United respectivley so massive respect to them.

And perhaps Ledley King actually... didn't win as much as he deserved at SPurs and bearing in mind just what a world class centre back he was when fit, one can only imagine just how much better he would have been had he not been so unlucky with injurys. Would probably have developed into one of the greatest centre backs the world has ever seen, up their with Beckenbaurer. Terrible shame that he couldn't stay injury free.

Robbie Keane, though I'm biased. He's my favourite ever footballer.

Gotta wonder though, what could have been if he;d stayed at Inter. Didn't Moratti once say selling Keano was his biggest mistake in football?

Appointing Benitez may have later topped that though...

What happened to Kewell? He seemed so talented, regularly belting in Goal of the Season contenders but then disappeared.

:ross:

I remember being a lot younger at the time and thinking how cool it was that Inter Milan had bought this Irish kid that had loads of potential and does a crazy cartwheel celebration lol.. If that was today I would been a lot more realistic of the chance of that move paying off but at that age I just remember thinking it was amazing and couldn't believe he wasn't starting every game.. Still, we managed to benefit from him for many years after.

Turkish fans had high hopes for him.. He was a typical MoTD highlights guy.. surprised Harry never picked him up somewhere!

If fully fit Ledders would certainly have been snapped up by one of the big boys (Real, Bayern etc) for sure imv, he would have won the lot.

I think Taraabt will be looked at like this in years to come. I remember watching him when he was 17 against Orient in a pre-season. He was the most incredibly skillful player I'd seen at that age, but for some reason be it attitude, arrogance or whatever, I just dont think he will achieve his potential.

3 goals in 2 games this season ;)

He's still got it, I think. Maybe we'll get a second chance with him, who knows.

He seriously could have been special, though.

Maybe another player for this is Jay Jay Okocha, never hit the Euro elite.

Probably unfair on Lennon. He has done enough for us, especially with his absences missed so much, to avoid this list. He might have underacheived what we hoped but perhaps it was limits in his game.

Gomes is headling that way. Such a talented stop-stopper but so prone to bad spells. He needs to go and play to resurrect his career - he is still relatively young of a goalkeeper - instead of sitting behind our bench in case Friedel ages quickly.
