Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Tottenham are in talks with Anzhi Makhachkala over the signing of forward Willian.

Willian landed in London yesterday and it is understood that Spurs hope the player completes a medical and signs before the weekend.

"I can't really confirm anything regarding Willian. There is interest in the player and there have been conversations," Villas-Boas said at a press conference prior to Tottenham's Europa League play-off against Dinamo Tbilisi.

Villas-Boas declared his appreciation for Willian on Monday and he has moved quickly in his attempts to sign the player following interest from Liverpool.

Should Willian pass his medical and sign for Tottenham, for a fee of around £30million, the north London club will break their transfer record for a third time this summer.

Spurs have already spent £60million on new players this summer, but their manager hopes to strengthen his squad further.

"We will see some new players in defence and attack," Villas-Boas said.

Villas-Boas declined to comment on the prospect of signing Roma midfielder Erik Lamela and Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao, who have been linked with the club.

"They have not signed for Spurs. Both of them are great, great players, but I cannot extend myself," he said.

Real Madrid target Gareth Bale has not travelled to Tbilisi because of a foot injury while Sandro, Jan Vertonghen and Aaron Lennon will also not feature because of injury worries.

So, just as the final pieces of our 248 man squad fall into place, in what is undoubtedly already our greatest winda eva, I'm heading off to the Tuscan Hills to a villa with no tinternet. FFS. Not back until the 2nd, so missing Swansea and Tbleasy. Double FFS.

So thanks to everyone for all the great (and not so great) posts in this subforum roller coaster ride. It's been more entertaining than some of the football last year that's for sure.

Roll on 2nd September - Jim White, the stage is all yours.

I kind of could, Podolski's ability to play both wide and as a no 9 could prove useful.
Backup for both Chadli and Soldado.
Fits 433 perfectly and is a very good player when played to his strenghts.
Bit underrated at the moment, especially in England.
Either way I trust AVB in what he want us to sign.

Artur Petrosyan @arturpetrosyan

There's no Keisuke Honda on the plane to Tomsk. #CSKA have 11 days to sell him now or let go for free in January.

is he another flop ghagawa (utd) type player?

I don't think Kagawa was a flop. I think that's a heavy handed criticism. I think he impressed at times and lets not forget that he had injuries and it was his first season in the Premiership. He's a very talented player.

Lol,,,,if Chelsea get Willian to keep us down they are hardly going to sell us Mata.

But Hulk would be great for us. As long as he can fit into the same team as Lamela...I understand they both like to come from the right? But if we can have Hulk as the Bale replacement and Lamela can create like Willian was supposed to, then great.
