Etienne Capoue

I expect none of Parker, Livermore, Hudd and Carroll will be at the club come September. The first three will probably leave for good, while Carroll will get a loan to a top flight side. We could probably get 12 or so million from Hudd, Livermore and Parker, which would more than cover the Capoue fee.

A shame, because I really wanted Livermore to stay and make it (him being a Spurs fan and all), but I suppose that's the way it goes, like Caulker's departure.

Capoue played once at CB last season against Lille. One time. In the french Ligue 1. In a 3 man defense. So these thinking about him as a CB should have a rethink.

This is what he had to say about it when asked by a journo.

How was your transition in central defense against Lille?

That went well. This is not my preferred position, but I'm happy aslong I play. We talked a lot with the coach before the game and everything went well. This is a squad project so from there, we must aall get involved in it. In a three-man defense, we defended very high. You have to be tough in the tackle and that's what we managed to deal with Lille. It became an easy game.

Your info is wrong, fella.

He played at CB 5 or 6 times last season.

He also started out as a CB before moving to CM / DM.

Good points.

I am only half way through this thread but nobody has yet suggested this guy could replace Dembele.

Not directly, no.

But given the options that we would then have in midfield, it would mean that we could reshuffle and still be very strong. We wouldn't suffer as we did last season when Sandro and Dembele were injured.

Can't believe people are against this move. I'm sure we are still looking for a centre back.

I'm sorry but for the last few years weve been so reliant on our first XI as the drop off in quality is significant - we play our strongest XI all the time and burn them out. Look at Man U, City and Chelsea, they rotate without significant drop in quality. We don't as Sandro & Dembele are much better than Parker & Hudd and we suffered when they were out. We played so much with Parker for the second part of the season people forget how strong we looked with Dembele & Sandro together. Man U away, smashing Fulham 3-0 away, we went on an amazing run.

Having a pool of Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue is STUNNING means we can maintain a strong spine while resting and covering from injuries. The fact he can cover centre back is a bonus!

This is exactly why we have slipped up in Feb/March/April the past two seasons.

Great signing by the sounds of it, especially since Sandro is not expected to be ready for the start of the season. I would also not be surprised to see us line up in a 5-3-2 formation at some points of the season where Capoue could act as the third CB, pushed slightly ahead of the other two CBs with the fullbacks being given extra licence to push up and support.

Capoue looks odds on to replace Parker but the future of all the others looks less obvious to me, including Hudd who might just end up here because he is a risky move for another club given his injury record.

Did I read that the club are thinking of 'retasking' Livermore as a CB?

By us taking Capoue I reckon that it will mean that Cardiff come back in for Hudd

does anyone have any idea what wages (roughly) the hudd is on?????? I reckon he will end up at Fulham......who by the way with Taarabt Berba Ruiz & Kacacli..oh sod it...could be pleasing on the eye this year.

I have to say my enthusiasm for Dembele is waning.

I think in a 4231, Dembele will find himself in competition with Paulinho for a spot in the side.

If we go 433, then I think Holtby will push him for a spot alongside Paulinho (with Sandro/Capoue as the holder).

Either way, we won't be so reliant on him to be the beast in midfield, which he had to do on his own for most of last season, given the Sandro injury and decline of Parker.

Pleasing on the eye..good point. Jol is in heaven there. Charlton/Curbishley come to mind if the new owner gets ideas above Fulham's station.

Last season Man Utd had the options of Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Cleverly, Fletcher and Anderson in central midfield, and they also ended up playing Rooney and Jones there a fair bit too. Arsenal had Wheelchair, Cazorla, Arteta, Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey, Coquelin and even Oxlade-Chamberlain played a bit in the centre.

Over the course of a season, your squad will get injured. You'll have suspensions. They'll also tire out. Especially if AVB intends to take the Europa League seriously again. Now when Wheelchair got injured towards the end of last season, Arsenal kept winning games. Why? Because they had quality players in reserve. Whereas when Sandro got injured, we suffered badly. Parker and Livermore were both very poor last season, I don't want to risk having them on the pitch any more.

Dembele
Sandro
Paulinho
Capoue
Holtby
Carroll
Sigurdsson

That's looking almost complete. AVB MIGHT be planning on picking two all action midfielders to support the slower Huddlestone, but I reckon he will more likely be sold along with Parker and Livermore. My concern is a lack of creativity from the middle of the pitch, which is why I'd still like to bring in another creative type and send Carroll out on loan to another Premiership team.

great signing on its own especially at that price, but can we play sandro, paulinho, and capoue at the same time? maybe dembele in the hole and soldado most forward?
