Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Just name the games Bale started and didnt perform then...I cant wait...

You want to get Top 4 with which the likes of Friedel, Livermore, Dawson, Parker & Lennon and the rest?:-k

Well, seems like you`re confident which is very good  but its not possible my friend, to get top 4 you need top 4 players! Do you understand that or do you need explanning?

We do have top four players.

Lloris, Vertonghen, Dawson, Walker, Dembele, Sandro, Dempsey, Siggy, Ade (if he gets back to his best)

We did get top four with the likes of Freidel, Livermore, Dawson, Lennon and Parker. Last season.

I just named the months that he didn't perform as well. Go do it yourself.

Oh right, its months is it. How many good games in a month do you rate as a consistent month?

Why are you so positive are every bad players and trying to say Bale is unconsistent? I dont get it, just praise the good. Who is player of the year? Bale

Who is going to miss out on CL? Our squad of under-performers. Thats facts mate.

You wanna get CL with 9 players? or is that space for new players? Who are they? Another Crouch? Another Bentley?

Player of the year is Bale yes. That's not to say he's wonderful and perfect though. He still needs to add consistency to his game. If you go and ask Bale, i'm pretty sure he'll tell you he needs to improve, as that's the kind of person he is.

Its not a fact. Not this year, there is still a game to go, and not next year.

No, I think we'll go into the transfer window and buy two quality players, like last year's summer window but fewer quality players because we need fewer.

Then Bale will help fire us to Champions League football next season.

Re: Gareth Bale

Of course every player would tell you they could improve, even messi if you ask him. With the players around him, it would be hard to do better than this season for him. Hes been everywhere.

If he stays, with two more quality players, we`ll have a wonderful team. But without him, we dont have any attacking power. We havent really shown ability to buy good players going forward in recent years.

I understand you trying to be so positive but we lack attacking players with real quality. Dembele & Sandro is a beast midfield. Defense and goalkeeper should be fine for the next few years. But Bale has been everywhere up front. Without him you struggle to see where the goals come from.

Not really. I don't struggle to see where the goals are coming from. Siggy and Dempsey have had wonderful seasons. Defoe has had a decent season, Ade has picked up over the last two games but hasn't been good enough. Vertonghen has scored a number of goals. Lennon.. I don't think Lennon is productive enough for an attacking player.

We would do fine without Bale. Why? Because we wouldn't set up our system for Bale to be the focus of it if we didn't have him.

Last two games Bale was injured in? We scored two goals in each (Everton and Basel). Bale missed the home game against Chelsea? We scored two. I'm struggling to recall which other games he missed though. We have scored goals without Bale. We would continue to score goals without Bale, the three games which i have mentioned it was our defensive unit that lost us the game, not a lack of goals.

I'm not 'trying' to be positive, i am actually positive.

There you go! I am glad we agree on that, he just isnt good enough. He is in a lot of peoples heart so gets away with it but he hides away in most games.

Anyway, all I can say is that I hope you are right, I am positive aswell, I think AVB is a fantastic choice and will get us where we want to be. I am just frustated in fact that we keep on finishing behind Arsenal every season. Not done I know..

Re: Gareth Bale

Tbh, I don't think the rest of the team has helped Bale at all this season, despite his clear improvement esp in getting involved and on the ball. I think if we had better movement and vision Bale would be scoring a lot more "easy" goals, the sort even the best strikers feed on. It really astonishes me how often our players come to a stop when they see him on the ball, or even actively get in his way with really bad runs. Holtby's the only one who seems to make space for him consistently.

I'm sure Bale's happy playing for us, but we really need more firepower and intelligence up front to help him out. How many good chances do we actually create for him, versus him rescuing us with a wondergoal? For that matter - how many chances do we actually create for anyone, versus them coming up with a nice bit of improv? (55% of our goals are from outside the box - the highest in the league.) That's something to tackle this summer. I'm convinced Bale will stay, but he really should be the gilded lining of a creative team and not the guy who does it all.

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale was not extremely average before February. I made a half-time player of the season poll in January some time and Bale was just behind Sandro.

Bale would also be far more effective - I'm not big on stats but isn't he a low 'creator' in terms of assists etc?

He is, which is a bit of an issue with playing him in the centre in my mind. He's not the creative type that will bring other players into the game. Granted he will score you goals, but your front four will all look a little isolated.

He created plenty of chances for others when playing on the left - but 90% of them were spurned. So his assists column isn't as impressive as it should be - or would be, if we had had more clinical strikers over the past few years.

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale's created plenty of good chances through crosses (and he's the highest Key Passer in this squad), but nobody gets in the box so they all go to waste. :( What he can't do naturally is function as a playmaker like Mata, Cazorla etc so you don't get those throughballs, flick-ons, etc.

Bale's already come on HUGELY in terms of getting involved in build-up but ideally this summer we'd get in a real playmaker with clever lateral movement, freeing Bale up from playmaking duties to let him focus on delivering the finishing blow. [-o<

Pretty much this. Bale should be free to do what he is best at.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think Bale has been poor overall in some games, but his goals really cloud peoples judgement. He wasn't at all his best against Arsenal, in fact other than his goal he was pretty damn anonymous but he scored and that's all that matters, there have been many games like that from him. But if he's scoring goals that contribute to us winning, who cares how he performs?

Re: Gareth Bale

I think theres too much chopping and changing in the midfield for the team to get the best out of Bale.
Probably a consequence of the many injuries in the later part of the season, but also I don't think AVB really knows his best players/formation yet.
Part of the reason is also that we have a lot of players who can do amazing things, but can't be counted on to do that consistently..

I think that's true of nearly all our front players though - they're finishers of moves, not creators. Lennon, Dempsey, Defoe, even Siggy to some extent - they pop up with a key lethal moment now and then and that's dazzling and productive and all BUT they so rarely get more than 30 touches a game. Even Bale in his crap games gets more than that these days.

To me that's the big issue to address this summer. We have plenty of decent individual talent here, that's why we're so good at taking advantage of the chaos and desperation in the last 10 min but we need something to tie everything together and create a real "substance" and flow to our game. If we were a tv series we'd be the one with a bunch of snappy one-liners and one great scene-stealing character but no real story behind it all.

Re: Gareth Bale

Marketing gurus?

Think that's a little bit complex. Simplest reason is likely correct. It's the £££££££.

personally speaking i think its marketing. there would be no money if people didnt tune in

people tune in due to the idea put forward, most probably in market research of some sort.....people will want to watch the best teams and more importantly.....you have to convince the TV people to air this as regular and as often as they do

i wouldnt have thought the money was just sitting there in the ether waiting for the CL to some. it was probably being spend somewhere else before all the attention got drawn to the CL
