Repetitive bickering and point scoring about money and our transfer policy

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

I never said that. I am just saying Siggy, Lennon, Dempsey and & Holtby are not footballers. We all know that but some are trying to convince the others that they are, even though I have seen them on the ball all season and I have more skills...

There is no wonder we cant keep the ball with players like that.

Coutinho and sturridge are both technically a class above these players are cost about the same.

I'm delighted that you aren't in charge of recruitment at Spurs.

Re: what has happened to the transfer section?

None of us knows what we could have afforded back in January or even what we could have afforded last summer. Nor do we know what we might be able to afford this coming summer.

The point that was primarily being made, despite the fact that it has been twisted into something else, was that published accounts prove that the club does spend what it earns and that it isn't sitting on some mythical pile of cash.

No actually that's not the case at all. That might be your primary point or the point of the various other posters but this whole debate started when it was declared that we had no money (or little money) last summer and that the financial report shows that. You have to understand that there are various conversations going on at one time so your primary point might not be the same for others.

Re: what has happened to the transfer section?

Agreed

There was a point made earlier how any manager is as good (or as bad) as the tools he's given

If Levy is unwilling to supply AVB with those - then I believe it is unrealistic to set Top 4 objectives or similar targets with players such as Dempsey, Hudd, Defoe, BAE, etc.

Re: what has happened to the transfer section?

My grievance has never been that we didn't and don't spend money because its clear that we do (within our means which is what any common sense would tell you is the correct way of doing things). My grievance has been that we spent 60m and a few of those, in my view, were not AVB purchases. This is in my opinion what backing the manager entails - getting who he wants (of course within our means).

This whole transfer committee business is gonad*s, I see committees everyday fudgein up because they don't make the decisions that is best for the objective at hand and to meet needs of people.

We constantly go around in circles for the reason, that has been stated numerous times throughout this thread, we are not privy to what is actually happening. Who knows maybe our mate Joe Lewis has given AVB 100m or maybe we have decided not to spend a penny... We do not have conclusive evidence for either.

What I do know is our squad is overrated with some glaring gaps in the first team and squad - these need to be filled if we want to be successful. The league is there to be won next season or the season after and we should grab our chances.

This

Braineclipse even stated we could probably only afford 15m in the summer, possibly even less

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

yeah, Douche is an all american marketing ploy. Football?? forget about it!!

Do people actually think we left this transfer to the last minute if we had planned it all along?

He was signed purely because we missed out on our primary attacking targets and needed some late cover and was ready and waiting to move on from his former club, well in my view of course, certainly was a transfer which came out of the blue - had it been planned i would have expected some genuine itk being discussed/ripped apart on here

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

I thought we got 'our' Wenger this season?

Or was that Arry The Innocent?

Or Ramos

Oh, wait . . .

Lets see he how he does once he is out of his first season, with hopefully a more balanced and complete squad before writing him off eh

Just an idea

Absolutely - yes

Classic move hoping for a bargain - happens every day in life within many trade circles

Did it once myself when buying an old motor - knew the guy was leaving and desperate to sell. Waited as late as possible, made a cash over - he took it

- How do you know that

- Who were those targets

- Perhaps they were unrealistic to begin with - our own fault entirely - do you honestly think we aren't aware of players personal demands prior to starting negotiations?

I haven't written anyone off - please quote that very sentence - or in the words of your buddy Braineclipse - feel free to retract that statement

Re: what has happened to the transfer section?

i wonder what influence Levy's now grown up son is having on transfer targets. Sits next to his dad at games, always having a word in his ear.

imagine if one of us had a dad who was chairman of the mighty Spurs. Surely we would influence a few decisions ;)

Re: what has happened to the transfer section?

We don't, none of us do (no matter how many times people have gone over the yearly financial reports).

Personally i'm just very annoyed with our chairmans actions since summer 2010 (regarding his transfer business).

2010/11 = We dreamt of Aguero, Lewandowski, Cavani....i mean anything was possible in terms of attracting players now we finally made the CL. Sandro was secured a few month prior to the summer so we had a whole summer to bring in the level of quality required to really push on. Nothing is done until late August where we secure the signature of William Gallas to which i think "ok yes he will give us the experience needed at the back and will hopefully compliment Ledders too". We then do absolutely nothing until VDV is thrown our way on deadline day in a cut price deal. So if that didn't happen, our chairman was content to start the CL season with the sole summer signing of William Gallas...deary me (hell even AVB with his comments now seems to be under the impression that CL money will equate to more money spent but not with Daniel.

2011/12 (January window) = Arry declares he wants 2 signings. We all knew who they were because Arry is a big mouth that informed us via the media (remy and Samba). We've built up a massive massive lead in 3rd place and need that extra something to pretty much guarantee CL football. Arry even says that he's sure we will finish third if he's given the cash needed to bring in one of his targets. What does Levy do? oh Levy waits until deadline day again and secures us Saha and nelson. People continuously stated that "why should Levy let Arry spend the cash when he might not be here", or "he's saving the cash for the new manager" etc etc....hmmmm maybe he can give Arry the cash so he secures us CL footy?

2012/13 (January window) = AGain we're 3rd/4th...need that extra spark to really push on. Does that, as well as the 2 previous **** ups convince Levy to spend? nah of course not. He does nothing again and we look like we're not getting CL football.

Just so infuriating (and you can bet that a hell of a lot of posters on Feb 1st felt the same way).

Couldn't agree more its infuriating tbh fact we didn't even bring a forward in on loan in January sums up how much of a shambles it is at the club atm.

This

id say that seems realistic. 15 mill before player sales. So if we manage to get rid of a few then the pot will grow.

Too true - much lesser clubs managed to strengthen their attacking options for a fraction of what we paid for wasters over the last 2-3 years - then people still go off about not having 35 million for Cavani. Seriously

In the post i quoted unless i missunderstood the 'i thought we 'got' our Wenger quote'

What's happened to you man? you used to be cool :(

Danny boy and his last minute squeeze on every deal. He loves it

Agree about the signings not being avb signings.
Adebayor-previously on loan
Vertonghen- seen at lane while redknapp still manager.
Sigurdsson-signed before avb was manager.
Dempsey- bargain bucket levy on deadline day thinking couldn't turn down the opportunity.
Which leaves lloris and Dembele who I believe avb may of indentified as targets and tbh not completely sure lloris was his target.

We need go out early this summer with intent and try buying who WE and most importantly who the manager wants to buy and not just picking up the scraps at end of window.

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Was referring to his season with Chelsea / England

The Chelsea squad that Ancelotti inherited was a ready made title winning team. What Ancelotti achieved in his first season was only marginally above par.

If Spurs finish 5th, AVB's achievement will be on par.

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Danny boy and his last minute squeeze on every deal. He loves it

Then, unlike every other deadline day transfer deal we've done, did we hear nothing about it before hand?

The only other example is VdV who we know to have been a genuine last minute deal
