Kit Thread

Nike and Warrior are in a bidding war over a new kit deal for Manchester United, according to a report in The Daily Mail newspaper.

Manchester United look likely to break through the £30 million per year barrier to receive a record kit deal either from current kit providers Nike or American company Warrior Sports, who recently jumped into the soccer world when they signed Liverpool to a deal.

Pictures have emerged showing what could be redesigned badges for Everton and Manchester United:

I like the United one. Its always been weird the gold or yellow in their badge so makes sense to get rid of that and go with the Red, white and black theme. But I still dont get the sense in modern badges having old style footballs in them. The spurs one makes sense to us, but it does look like a beach ball.

As for the Everton one, its too simple. Looks like they are just changing it to stop copying like a lot of clubs. So a copyrighted badge to stop unlicensed merchandise.

Turns out the Man Utd one is fake, made by some guy on Reddit.

Some of the other crests he has done are really really good, some of those League of Ireland ones are amazing and I really like his Norwich one

What's with this modern, dumbing down, minimal style? I much prefer the Everton badge with the Latin.

Basically, the new badges are copywritable. Its why we dropped the red lions etc from ours.
Arsenal have done theirs too. Not sure if United or Everton have, hence the fakes (ironically).

The red lions weren't originally part of our badge.

Irving Scholar, of all people, designed the badge with the red lions in the 1980's. Thank GHod we got rid of it. Awful design. New one is infinitely better. And, despite being newer, it is also truer to our tradition.

I'm probably years behind everyone else here but having googled it to find out... I never knew St George was the patron saint of numerous places (not just England), one of them being Catalonia, hence on the Barca badge next to the Catalan stripes.

Not sure what you mean. The "old" designs are not more or less capable of being copyrighted or trademarked. I suspect they have just been updated to look more modern and sleek, not for legal reasons.

Went for same as this yrs away kit but with a silver pin stripe design (and of course white shorts and socks)
