Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

seems Gareth Bale plays where HE wants

Er, What?

Lets all make guesses about what our players choose or choose not to do!

All we can know for sure is that he doesn't play where the fans want him to have played based on hindsight after the game.

not all of us. we need something or someone to stretch the team. I dont think avb has it in him to get that from players outside of lennon or bale, maybe because the players arent good enough but one thing has always been clear to me..at least one person in our team needs to be able to threaten width and damahe from the flanks. so if lennon is not playing then get bale out wide more often

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale could have crossed the ball in 20 times from the left for Defoe and Ade on Sunday without them connecting with it once.
Bale has to play in the middle because he's the only player in the team liable to score at the moment.

What a ridiculous over-exaggeration. Bale attempted at least 5 crosses against Fulham (admittedly none from the left) and every single one was poor. The fact is that against Fulham our strikers had scant service. Our midfield was dire - no space or ingenuity.

Bale may be our biggest goal threat but he isn't good enough on the ball to play in the centre, at least not in a situation a la Sunday where the opposition is sitting back and the rest of our team has no width and thus is not stretching the centre. Bale under pressure and 3 yards away from multiple opposition players is not good enough to pull something out of his arse. It didn't stop him trying against Fulham though. What we saw was a repeated wasting of possession through awful shots, crosses and passes.

We either need to start him in a position of more space (wide, especially against a deep defence), or create some space for him (with wide players). Neither solution looked remotely like happening on Sunday. Let's hope AVB sorts it out.

Re: Gareth Bale

He put one on a plate for Defoe.

Didn't realise that came from him, was in the Park Lane. Still, we are used to Bale being a more consistent threat and less wasteful. The system seemed muddled. In such a situation, for us to leave Bale in the middle, he needed to take the game by the scruff of the neck and win it. He clearly is not yet capable of this, he got on the ball a lot but often it was in very non-threatening areas and to the detriment of our team rather than to its benefit.

I think there has been a lag time in tactics to deal with Bale as teams adjust to him being used in the centre. Fulham defended him very well. Bale must continue to grow to overcome this, especially by mixing his game up a bit more in terms of movement (running both out-to-in and in-to-out). Assuming he has been granted a relatively free role, this is his responsibility.

Hopefully he will learn from this sort of game. If he can learn to constantly pop up in a range of dangerous situations, his talent would put him on a level with Ronaldo and Messi. At the moment, he can be dealt with (even in games where we have won, he has been muted for long spells and often relied on longshots to get the win). The point at which he becomes impossible to deal with tactically is the point at which he will be truly world class.

Re: Gareth Bale

Indeed, especially after headlines like this in the tabloids today to motivate Charlie...

Gareth Bale can't run without legs! Scotland told to boot Wales winger | Mail Online

Former Rangers hard man John Brown has stoked the fire ahead of Scotland's clash with Wales by urging Gordon Strachan's players to kick Gareth Bale.
Bale ripped Scotland apart in Cardiff last October and looks set to shake off an ankle injury in time for Friday's return at Hampden.
The Tottenham winger scored twice as the Welshmen won 2-1 and Brown, the Dundee manager, believes roughing him up is the only way to stop him.

'With the pace that he's got and the close control... he can't run without legs,' Brown told BBC Radio Scotland. 'I'm sure it'll be passed around the squad. Get close to him and don't give him time and space.'
Brown's comments angered fans and he was forced to deny saying the Scots should try to 'hurt' Bale. But when quizzed again on whether that was what he was implying, Brown, nicknamed Bomber during his playing days, said: 'It might have been.'
Scotland, with Gordon Strachan taking charge of his first competitive match this weekend, remain winless in World Cup qualifying Group A with just two points from four games after blowing a golden chance of victory at Cardiff City Stadium.

They led through James Morrison's first-half strike but Bale levelled with a penalty he won himself with nine minutes to go and sealed the comeback with a last-gasp screamer into the top corner.
Brown added: 'One player in the Wales team won the game that night; cancel him out and the Welsh team are average.
'I watched the game down there and the difference was Gareth Bale, when you give him time and space to run with the ball and strike it with his strong foot from 30 yards.

'Scott Brown was taken off, Charlie Adam came on and he never did a job on him.
'Your midfield, you get them tight, make sure your defence is compact and you make sure you're losing all the space for him.
'Gordon Strachan will know what he's doing. If he can nullify Bale I think the Welsh team are average.'

Gareth Bale absent from Wales squad as they arrive for Scotland qualifier

Gareth Bale has not travelled with the Wales squad for their World Cup qualifier with Scotland.

STV understands the Tottenham Hotspur forward has been left behind in Cardiff, although it is not yet known why he has failed to travel to Glasgow.

Bale has been struggling with an ankle injury and missed Wales training on Wednesday.

The Welsh FA were unavailable for immediate comment when contacted on Thursday.

Bale scored both goals as Chris Coleman's side came from behind to defeat Scotland 2-1 in Cardiff last year.

Regarded as one of the most in-form players in world football, the 23-year-old has scored 21 goals in 36 appearances at club level this season.

YAY! go wales. you are not a one-man-team!

Re: Gareth Bale

So Bale joins up with the Wales squad after looking real uncomfortable in the 2nd half against Fulham,

Then he misses 3 days of training and reportedly has been suffering some sort of illness.

Then he starts today and gets subbed off at HT.

I really hope Spurs have a doctor up there first thing in the morning. This is way to risky for Spurs.
