Daniel Levy's Transfer Policy Revealed

Re: Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Thank you.
Perhaps one day very soon people will grasp how the money flows at a club with 36,000 seats...

And yet that doesn't stop clubs like Everton buying strikers. And they are in a much, much worse financial situation than we are.

Listen.

I don't WANT it to be true. I don't ASK for it to be true. But it certainly appears it "might" be true, right? So why challenge me directly? I am not Levy or Lewis. I am simply offering what I believe to (sadly) be pretty accurate information.

With regards to your comment, take a look at who Everton have signed the last 4 years and look at their wage bill. I suspect you will see a difference. Again, please understand the difference. I don't like the situation any more than you, but it is what it is. We will ALL find out whether it's truth or bluff on the 31st, right?

Re: Ratings Vs Leeds

This same tired arguement every time. Jesus, I know Levy is a good chairman, but he's not infalliable ffs! That didn't stop Everton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine signing strikers during this window or last January did it?

This. Saudi Sportswashing Machine got Demba ba and Cisse last year, they were fine. Everton got Jelavic.

And our old friend Harry got Remy for 8m, a striker who is at least as good as what we have at the moment. Funny thing is before we use to blame Harry for not buying young players, just older players.

But since he is with Qpr, he has already spent the cash on a young exciting striker. And tried hard for M'vila. So the problem wasnt Harry who was was accused of buying players "seen on MOTD".

We just need a striker or two at the moment, even if they are not world beaters. If Levy was so worried about paying average players then we wouldnt have 4 keepers on good wages..

I haven't challenged you and only you. Various posters have said the same in other threads and I have raised the same points. I don't want another warning so I think I'll bow out of this thread now.

So, on that basis should Everton NOT be buying any players?

It is frustrating though, isn't it?

I do think we are being OVER cautious. We all saw our income jump when we got CL, so why not spend a bit now to achieve it again?
Plus we know there is substantial money coming in the summer from the Bale sale

Re: Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Jelavic was the first permanent transfer to Everton that they actually paid money for in several years. That's the state of their finances and most importantly shows the size of their wage bill compared to revenue. We make more money than they do, but our wages have now reached a level where we cannot spend freely any longer.

Jelavic isn't good enough anyway and would have been wasted money.

And this tired old argument.

After a bright start last winter Jelavic hasn't exactly been a superstar this season. 6 goals in 22 (those are all starts by the way). I think most people here would have been unhappy with that return.

Meanwhile up north Cisse has 4 goals in 20 starts this season, unlike Jelavic he has been playing in various positions, but even so. He's a player who is mainly a goalscorer like Jelavic and that record isn't good enough for someone like that.

Adebayor who has been slated by many on here actually 2 goals in 9 starts this season. 5 sub appearances makes that stat a little worse, but his record is actually similar to Cisse's and not far of what Jelevic has produced in terms of goals. Despite Ade having a stop start season whereas Cisse and Jelavic have been fit pretty much throughout.

Obviously both Defoe and Dempsey are outperforming Jelavic and Cisse while Sig is struggling.

Re: Ratings Vs Leeds

Sadly this. How many years have we been saying "we need a striker" now? Must be since Berbatov left. If we don't get top 4, don't blame AVB, blame Levy.

And how many strikers have we signed since Berbatov left?

Do you think that the answer is to "just sign another one" or to save our money until someone who improves us becomes available for a price we can afford?

KD made a good post in the Transfer forum about this.

We have scouts, right? Is it totally beyond belief that there is no striker out in the big wide world who would fit our needs? Hell, we got Berbs once by doing this.

Do you think that signing players they couldn't actually afford paying them wages they couldn't actually afford might be part of the reason why they're in this much worse financial situation?

Re: Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

In:
Parker £6m
Coulibaly £2m

Out:
O'Hara £5m
Keane £3m
Hutton £4m
Crouch £10m
Palacios £6m
Pavlyuchenko £8m

fudge's sake, fella. You've been around long enough.

You surely don't have to have to whole concept of amortisation explained to you again?

1. You know for a fact that Levy wouldn't have bought Remy if AVB wanted him?

2. We have three keepers on good wages. Cudicini has gone to LA. And we're trying, but failing thus far, to move Gomes out.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Is that what you think, or more what you want?

I see where you are coming from, with Levys previous, but honestly don't think he will pull the trigger yet.

He is no where near pulling the trigger! Does anyone seriously think he would be that stupid, considering Chelsea only drew with Brentford, and Liverpool got knocked out today too? The idea that Levy will now 'hold this against him' is absolute gonad*s. 5th will see him touting the job around...goodness grief.

Levy has been around this game long enough to know that results like this can happen. He's also a big fan of AVB. He sacked a manager who has got us 2 top 4 finishes because it's not just about the immediate performance, it's also about the type of man he is working with and what other strengths that brings. Wishful thinking Golfball.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Right....and Everton are miles ahead of us in the league and have been for years?

?

That is not the point. The point has been raised that other clubs who have more money than us can afford to splash money on big name players whereas we have to be more selective which I fully understand, but other clubs who have LESS money than us still sign players in positions which they need but we still haven't replaced Berbatov. Honestly, people act like I'm saying we have to spend £30m on Cavani or another top name. My point was that with good scouting, you can identify good players who don't cost a fortune.

Do you understand?
