This to me is like a defender who could not break into his club first team been given a break to prepare for the Olympics game...

I am sure this fella has bags of leadership qualities, and could become a good defender one day. But he may not be ready for top flight football yet.

why's everyone acting like he'll be asked to start right away?? he's only 20... 3.7 m Euros is peanuts for what could turn out to be a top class CB.

To put the record straight, I don't expect him to start or play a single minute for us this season (even if he is eligible to play).

And I do think it's a good thing we can tie him up with a loan and sign deal since he could become a good defender one day.

Looking at the last few u20 world cups.
We have in 2009 - Giuliano
2007 - Ji Parana
2005 - Rehan
2003 - Adailton

Giuliano, Ji Parana and Renan were all Internacional players...and out of these four past captains, only Giuliano may still make it in Europe.

O/T - but does anyone remember a while back someone posted a South American magazine cover depicting a young fella with brown curly hair placing his trainers in a bag with the headline below reading - 'I'm off to Spurs' or something similar. I think he was Coloumbian, but the name escapes me

What ever happened to that?

Do you mean the Honduran Anthony Lozano?

He said in that brief interview that he's only coming over now so that he can acclimatise to England and English football and ready himself for next season.

Yes, that's the one!

What happened to that piece of ITK?

According to Wiki:

In August 2010, Lozano spent time training with Tottenham Hotspur's reserve team, impressing manager Harry Redknapp. He was expected to stay with the North London side, but the deal never went through due to the fact that he was underage and, therefore, could not sign a contract with a professional club.

Really long Youtube clip of him in action for the Brazil U-20s. Looks pacey, positionally aware and very cultured and comfortable with the ball at his feet. I'd think 3m is a small risk to take on a player with his kind of potential.

Seems to be fairly quick and strong from that clip. And like some have said, to be captaining Brazil U20s, you'd have to be talented. Certainly more exciting than signing a 16 year old prospect. I don't expect to see much of him this season, but hopefully he'll turn out like Sandro for us in a year or so.

Indeed, the video is a good watch.

Now I'm uncertain of whether the OS will actually announce a signing like this, sometimes the younger players aren't announced, their name just pops up in a Spurs XI report, maybe it's so there is less pressure on them at the start?

It is Broomfield that does the work out in Brazil isn't it? It'd be nice if we have managed to pluck out a rough gem here, now we just need to get in a young striker in a similar manner to this signing....Edit: That is a bit harsh actually, Coulibaly is that signing I guess

I'm surprised no one has said he'll be another Rodrigo Defendi?? Isn't that always the case when you are linked with an a player (*find another player of the same nationality that has failed*) :D

no way... that video could be retitled "tackling and blocking 101". reminds me a bit of a young ledley king. his ability for last minute sliding tackles will suit the english game just fine. i think we have found an heir to the throne!

Looks good. Strong, smart, calm, and hard working guy. I like his size as well 6ft 1in. Good in the air too.
One thing from the video (not sure if its the case though) he doesn't seem that quick, like Dawson. But overall I like what I saw.
At one moment in the video he reminded me of Sandro and how hard he works.
I think if he keeps working hard he will prove the real deal and a better prospect than David Luiz

Some incredible predictions here... Personally I'll wait until I've seen him in a Spurs shirt/seen him play in a game at all before making any judgements. Definitely the sort of signing we should be looking to make though.
