Michael Dawson

Re: Dawson

I think he's a great 'old school' defender, problem is, AVB is trying to play defenders who are also passers!!!
Funnily enough, if Huddlestone has any future at the club, this might be his only shot. I look at what Barca do and it's absolutely brilliant; their defenders can all pass like midfielders, partially because they WERE/are midfielders!!!!
Maybe Daws can be coached to be a better passer? Don't know though, he's never been comfortable carrying the ball out of defence really...

The last place Hudd should play is in defense, his defensive reading of a game is shocking. He can not tackle, he allows opposing players to run in behind him and never tracks runners.

I am not advocating that he should play CB in the slightest but its easier to read the game when your facing play so the issues you raise would not be such a problem, for his size I dont think he is that good in the air.

Re: Dawson

Er... did you stiffs not see Huddlestone's "defending" for the Maribor goal? He is a poor defender and has proved it many times with half-hearted tracking back, lazy positioning and weak challenges.

He is a great passer and that's about it nowadays.

Reminds me of Jan Molby without the mobility.

.

Absolutely, for a professional player his defensive reading of a game is shocking.

Re: Dawson

have to say that with the kyle walker situation becoming more and more of an issue, and with alarming consistency, it was indeed heart warming to see dawson back

he is a very special type of defender..one that the ball seeks out rather than vice versa.

I think we should move him into the middle with caulker(who is showing his years at times), and move gallas to Right back

thoughts?

Re: Dawson

Gallas should be nowhere the team-sheet.

It is him Dawson needs to replace with Naughton providing like-for-like cover for Walker.

Hmmmm against Arsenal? yesssss i agree with this actually.

Gallas------------------Dawson-----------Caulker------------vertonghen

As i said in the match thread Gallas cannot be dropped for this game imo. He has to play this one.

So that he can gift them goal scoring opportunities?

I'm no massive Dawson fan, but would take him over Double Agent Gallas any day and as bad as Walker has been this season i'm not sure if Double Agent Gallas would be any better.

hey bishop (".....And nothing will ever be the same")

defensively i think gallas is streaks ahead of walker and to be honest on a personal level i dont know why people have deemed him brick now a few unfortunate errors.

everything wieghed up against each other he is very much in the plus column IMO

Re: Dawson

Never been a fan of Gallas during his time at spurs. He was once a great defender but these days is very much an individual defender and thus I never feel we look secure as a unit when he plays. The idea of moving him to RB is growing on me even if it is just so that he isn't playing in the centre anymore...;)

Double agent? His first motm performance for us was against arsenal ffs.

Re: Dawson

Serious question.

Do you consistently rate the performances that Gallas has put in during his time at Spurs?

Thought he had a v.good first season, good second season and he's been ok this season so overall i think he's been a success. If you don't then that's fine but to call him a double agent after such a masterclass performance against Gooner scum away is baffling and quite frankly very wrong. The man was incredible that day and that is not an understatement.

Interesting. I see it very differently but that is fair enough. The agent Gallas line was really because I see him make so many questionable decisions I sometimes wonder who he is playing for (the recent Chelsea match as an example). That is the beauty of the forum a place where we can debate till the cows come home.

What do you know, that's exactly what I think when watching Dawson.
