The final straw?

it is a good sign, hopefully it is more than just a token gesture and something they fully get behind should it make a difference

Let's hope that the club genuinely do realise how important a good atmosphere is to its future success. Self interest is what will most motivate Levy et al.

Not only do i think it is right to boo i think there should be more of it.

Im convinced that some on here think that not booing makes them see more cultured and some sort of "better fan" but my reason for booing is because of my personality.
Someone who to achieve the things he wanted had to change themselves and get out of their comfort zone and push myself and work harder then i had ever done before. I expect the same from the players.

If dempsey starts on thursday i shall boo him from first minute to last this is because i find his performance utterly unacceptable and he needs to know that the fans think this and he has to improve massively.

I guess it comes down to whether your some sort of touchly feely left wing socialist freak who wants to teach the world to dance, or whether your a go getter who likes and demands success. Booing is not only a good thing in my eyes it can be a force for good and it shows the players that we expect more.

Some say the best way to get more from people is to encourage them, in my experince the ones you have to put an arm round and speak to in a soft voice they may give a little extra for a few weeks but they soon revert to type and hide in the shadows. Not a huge fan of parkers but he would not have hide yesterday like so many of our other players did.

Seem to remember parker saying in an interview a few years ago that coaches these days have a hard job because players are so precious that coaches can not shout at them. I bet parker would not minded being shouted at if he was having a bad game.

I remain unconvinced on avb but he will get to the end of the season before i form an opinon on him. He is the coach and if he wants to read the riot act go for it. It is why i will boo dempsey on thursday because it is not acceptable how he is performing, if he improves his form i will take the praise from all of you for helping to improve him. I demand better from the players and all of you should to.

I totally agree with you that, on the basis of the information that we have, it was a baffling decision. Why Defoe instead of the utterly ineffective Dempsey? Certainly, I wasn't happy, like most others in the stadium.

But that doesn't mean that the level of the vitriol was justified. It wasn't. It was a massive overreaction.

It seemed as though all those fans who had sat there like stuffed dummies for the all that had occurred before (other than to boo at half time or to grumble at any instance of less than perfect play) couldn't wait to give full vent to their fury.

The atmosphere was unsupportive beforehand. Poisonous afterwards. Horrible. Counter productive. Shaming.

Agreed. But the fact that we were losing at home to Wigan when AVB decided to take Defoe off and play with 1 up front certainly did not help one little bit.

I'm not defending people booing at half time. I always say you should boo the result unless there are extenuating circumstances. But the fans were absolutely within their rights to be unhappy with the decision to bring Defoe off. I agree with 95% of what you've written in this thread, but that doesn't mean to say that the home fans must back every decision that the manager makes, and it was a shocker! I remember people booing Graham when he took Ginola off on certain occasions. Were not the only fans who would do this. QPR were booed off at half time today btw so it's not just a Spurs problem.

best mate is a sunderland fan and he said that they are booing them off and apparently the is already a campaign going for mon to be sacked.

^ not surprising considering how brick they are under him - think it's like 1 win in 20 or something

Mindboggling.

How ruining the mood of everyone in the stadium could be a "force for good" is beyond me. As for your vendetta v Dempsey, you think your booing will make him realise a number of things that make him a) leave the club or b) become a better footballer?

Grow up.

I think Jimmy is on to something. Most supporters have nothing but disdain for footballers and people maybe are a bit turned off with English football in general. I'd like to see fans in this country boycott games like they do in Germany whenever the match ticket prices are raised.

I don't blame their fans for being unhappy with MON. His teams are awful to watch! He always seems to start off on fire, then fizzle out. Spent a lot of money at Villa, and now they are suffering because of it.

good point, the way football is going - especially the way it is reported on like some kind of celebrity gossip column in the mainstream media is turning a lot of people off of the game. Outside of Tottenham i have very little interest in football, in fact i probably dislike it more than like it

I refuse to watch england because of how much i dislike so many of the england players, sadly tottenham is in my soul and i cant get rid of them, care less and less about football though and dislike so many of the modern players.

to be honest we are not much better to watch at the moment, it is the main thing for me that we should be good to watch, im going to a few games this season but im not to interested if we continue to play like this

Sing your heart out mate. Will have to look out for more of these 1882 events, seems like a good idea.
I always do :)

Log onto the fighting c*ck forum mate (just type it in google - the word **** is blocked on here) and see when they're up next. It's a great laugh - loads of beers, lots of singing and not a care in the world. I've been to two so far and haven't seen us score yet but enjoyed them more than most first team games.

after all these years, this is the final straw eh..

Put your toys back in the box and get ready for the next game.
Not quite - long-term supporters are giving up on Premier League football everyday, as people are sick and tired of high ticket prices, lack of passion and reduced club identity.

I would be suprised if it ruins the mood of everyone in the stadium, imagine it will be more like when i go to speakers corner and no one pays any attention to me. As for dempsey i hope it might be unlikely but i hope he hears my booing and decides to stay late after trainning everydy and improves his standard. At the end of the season when he has turned his form around he will say in an interview it was because he was booed in an a europa league game and he took a long hard look at himself.

Im to old to grow up and set in my ways.

Agreed the 1882 games are excellent fun.

Utter drivel.

Sadly all too symptomatic of the modern fan - even if you, as a fan who has been about for a bit, ought to know better.

A persistently poisonous atmosphere has never helped a team to improve its performances - even if there might be a few individual players who are sufficiently defiant and contrarian to respond with "fudge you" style good performances (and one thing you can virtually guarantee - those few characters will be off to greener pastures at the first opportunity).

What it comes down to is your selfishness. You don't like a player. You think that he isn't trying in games or in training (despite the fact that you haven't got a fudging clue about whether he is or not). So you boo. Because you think you are the last word in motivation (when, in reality, you know fudge all). Because you think that it is your right; what you have paid for. Because you've become a spoilt brat.

You'd happily take the team into a spiral of worsening performances and confidence crisis so long as you can slag and carp and booooooooooooo to your heart's content. It's all about indulging your hurt feelings and prejudice against certain players and the manager. fudge the team. You're all that matters. Nice.

hardly a spoilt brat im actually very selfless in a lot of ways jimmy, what it comes down to is an opinon on how best to motivate people i belive in the stick you belive in the carrot, i have always liked and admired your posts and will continue to do so, but on this i strongly disagree with you.

I respect your rght to your opinon and love that we still live in a country where we can express our opinon.

I'm sorry but more booing is not going to help - and even if you did then it needs to be balanced with actual support for the club when things do go right (or even if the team is losing).

Negativity breeds more negativity, I'm afraid.
