Hugo Lloris

I like the AVB interview, clearly makes the reporter look like an idiot. the problem that appears to be developing here though is AVB is getting mouthy again like he was at chelsea with rumours of discontent in the dressing room (lloris, adebayor). similar to chelsea, and we all know what happened there. the way I see it though is this is a long season, there will be plenty of games for everyone and we have a huge game on saturday.

i dont think AVB should be pressured into playing Lloris, but it is an uncomfortably situation. it would be wise to give adebayor a run out on saturday if fit also, because we are clearly going to need him this season

Brad to start at OT according to Sky

Oh, well

good

AVB bought Lloris, I´m sure there is some idea going on how he will be eased into the no 1 spot. French media needs to shut up, English media needs to shut up, ex french players need to shut the fudge up

Is this not the perfectly understandable situation:

AVB comes to Spurs, his man-management skills having been derided by the press following his time at Chelsea. He, quite rightly and understandably, wants to make sure he keeps the squad's respect. Having signed Lloris he could have simply said, 'thanks Brad, now onto the bench as Hugo's here now' but he decided instead that, despite the fact it is obvious Lloris is a long-term signing and will within a short period become the Club's number one, given Friedel is (a) established and (b) popular with the fans, the players and the media and (c) actually playing very well at the moment, the drawbacks of upsetting Lloris (if it is upsetting him) for a few weeks is far less detrimental to AVB and therefore the Club than the potential drawbacks of dropping the in-form Freidel.

AVB knows that its just a matter of time. So too does Lloris (which is why I suspect that contrary to press speculation to the contrary, he won't give a rats ass). So too does Friedel.
What we all know is that if immediately upon signing Lloris, AVB had dropped Friedel and played Lloris and if Lloris had played anything other than brilliantly, AVB would have been ripped apart by the media and (lets be honest) the large number of fans at our club who are just waiting for AVB to fail.

I think AVB has played it perfectly. Lloris is settling in, training with the players every day, getting used to the systems etc and getting a bit of playing time in the UEFA. AVB will no doubt wait for another week or two by which time he knows that Brad will have something other than a great game and, what a shock, Lloris is then in place.

As for his non-involvement in carlisle, again I think that was smart of AVB. He clearly knows (a) the League cup is 4th on our list of priorities and (b) carlisle was a potential banana skin and (c) he wasn't going to drag friedel up there.
I think the message from Lloris's omission from the squad is 'I don't expect you or Brad to have to go up there on a cold Wednesday night, leave that to Gomes and Cudicini and you two concentrate on the bigger games'.

Finally, lets not be swayed into the skewed picture the press paint which suggests that Lloris has been ignored for weeks and weeks. He's only been available for two games - Reading (which followed an international break meaning he'd basically never trained to any great extent with his new team mates) and QPR.

As far as I am concerned, and I am no great AVB/Lloris/Friedel lover, AVB is playing it exactly right and Lloris will be installed between the sticks as first choice within the next month or so.

That is all. COYS.

The media only bring this up because they are tinkled off Lloris isn't playing and potentially being crucified for any potential mistakes made (aka Gomes) - I guess Friedel is too reliable for them to create a new witchhunt. Jog on, tacos and report on something else...

Good post, you could argueably say that the media has cost Tottenham a £10m asset the way it went after Gomes. Thing is they have done it to every team that changes keepers, Utd, Goons etc, as you say its a basic model of reporting a new keeper. The way Tottenham are dealing with it this time IMO is common sense for which I hope they get rewarded down the line.

The only thing I don't understand is why Gomes is still here, or Cudicini for that matter. What happened to the Cudicini to Watford rumours, although they have a good young keeper there.

I think Cudicini must be on a pay as you play contract, since the bike accident, allowing the 4 keepers.

Agreed. The media are just trying to create a story out of nothing - its pathetic the way they are hovvering over AVB like vultures. Was always going to be like this though after his spell at cheatski. Utterly pathetic and will continue for the rest of the season. Just watch what happens when he leaves a senior player out or sells one - I bet the stories are already written

Can you imagine if AVB had had the same start to the season as Rodgers?? He'd have gone.
The only thing I would say is that to some extent we the fans are our own worst enemy on this. Liverpool fans are well behind Rodgers and there are only a few dissenting voices there. Despite the fact AVB is new, new system, unbeaten in previous four, etc etc etc yet one-down at half-time last week and we the fans behave in a way which adds fuel to the media's fire. They love to be able to say 'AVB and the team booed of at half time', 'AVB now under pressure from fans who have turned against him' etc etc.
I hate Liverpool and their fans more than most, but we all have to accept that the lack of media pressure on Rodgers is largely because the fans don't give them the headlines they want.
The fact that things are getting better for us at WHL means the only stick they have to beat AVB with is the Lloris stick. So they do. Pathetic really.

Rodgers need a result against Norwich this weekend or the knives will be coming out. AVB would probably get more flak for losing to ManU though, good thing we'll win.

compare the teams Liverpool have had to play so far with those we have played and that will give you some idea why the press havent launched into Rodgers yet. Liverpool have had a very tough set of fixtures compared to Tottenham's gentle start.

Plus, in those games, Liverpool have matched the big teams, Rodger's vision slowly appears to be taking shape. Spurs have had a very poor game against Norwich, 2 poor halves against WBA and QPR.

the press are always looking for an angle to attack any top club/manager, and Tottenham has always been an easy target, but i dont think there is any need to be paranoid

He played well against Emirates Marketing Project and Man Utd, his team raised there game. We'll no doubt do the exact same at home to both teams, we always tend to.

He was OUTCLASSED at home to Arsenal, not saying Arsenal are bad, they look pretty damn good but still. They got battered by West Brom too. Struggled to even beat Hearts and at home couldnt even beat them.

It's going to be a long long season for Liverpool. They won't be in a relegation fight all season no way, but they'll struggle to finish in the top ten in my view.

Man Utd, Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham, Everton, Saudi Sportswashing Machine will all finish above them. Just about who finishes below that really. Think West Brom could possibly.

No matter who we had played and what the circumstances if we were in Liverpool's league position right now the press would be all over us and AVB like a rash....

Is it just me or was that **** journalist really aggressive with regards to the Lloris question, especially after AVB asked him how he knows that Lloris is frustrated?
I found my self thinking "Would he have used that tone whilst asking a question of Wenger or Ferguson?" Definitely not.

And then I thought "Well they do command rather a lot of respect, given what they have acheived in English football so that must be why I never hear a question aimed at Wenger, Ferguson in such an overtly aggresive tone."

And then I thought "I don't think I have ever heard such an aggresive tone used towards a top flight manager, whether brick or not, experienced or green, British or foreign."

Perhaps I am reading too much into it?

Or maybe he was just one of 'Arrys mates.

I'm sure this as been said before in this thread but I'm not trawling through all the pages especially seeing im on mobile! Hugo and Brad are both top keepers, but Lloris is the future and should be number 1. Time to forget sentiment with Friedel's 8 year unbroken run of pl games.
