Conor Gallagher

I think the term for a 10 like Gallagher is a ‘box crasher’

I’d like to see Fernandes moved back to play alongside/behind Tonali and Gallagher as the 10 in any parts of the game that Maddison cannot play, it will improve our pressing and chance of turning the ball over higher up the pitch and see us getting an extra player into the box when we attack, as well as giving us a player that is not afraid to have a shot from the edge of the box.
This is the way. Until Madders is back play Fernandes with one of Bentancur or Tonali, we at least then have his passing from deep.

Play Gallagher at 10 as at least he doesn’t look lost there, can score a goal, and like you say will help press the opposition,

Marmoush up front, Savio & Kudus out wide.

If we don’t play that in our next match then have to wonder what de Zerbi is watching,

I think he will persevere with Solanke. Not saying whether he should (I don't know where the player's head is at) but I think he will choose the confidence thing...

Thought he was brilliant vs Man Utd. In the first half, he just seemed to be everywhere. I personally would prefer a more technical attacking midfielder but I do also see the value in someone like Gallagher, who sets the standard for the rest of the team with the press and energy. If we can get more output from the wingers, I think Gallagher will become crucial to the way we play.

Absolutely agree, he had what I thought was his best game for us and in the process helped RDZ show that my pre-match selection nerves were a load of guff!!!!

Agreed
And he got booked early so still had it manage his actions

I actually had a look at the heatmaps on here - https://www.whoscored.com/matches/1...-league-2026-2027-manchester-united-tottenham

It is a very "centre to left" heatmap for Conor, balanced by Bergval doing some great work on the right. When you add in Tonali you see a pretty decent coverage from our midfield, and even more confirmation that we did a lot of our best work in that centre left channel as a team.

Then when you add the fact that heatmaps normally represent touches, it also doesn't factor in where players are doing the unselfish running and closing down then it all looks favourable. Gallagher definitely looked all action to me. Tonali also caught my eye. Classy player.

The touches of the ball have a twist though.
Gallagher - 66 in 74 mins
Tonali - 79 in 79 mins
Bergval - 38 in 66 mins

Just shows how the 2 senior players managed to get way more touches than the young gun. That's food for thought for the manager.

I have a feeling RDZ will have some nice problems coming up with these players.
