Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

If someone did a motion that Wahabi Islam is sexist there would be no outcry and it would be true. You could argue and win for any abrahamic religion.

To argue Zionism as it is, now, is racism - is similarly true.

However I'm not Jewish. And I've no idea how this feels. I would have voted against this if I was involved as I think it's incendiary. We've got a PM who is diplomatically doing the right things. We don't need this crap. We don't need people to use this to hate random Jewish people.

There isn’t one clear definition of Zionism, to many it’s as simple as Jewish people have the right to a recognized homeland.

Friday’s The Newsagents Podcast is worth a listen on this issue.

I had a listen and it's helped me think my position through better. This motion is a PR stunt rather than aimed at stopping a genocide. I just want the suffering to end. This feels like creating more hate

Green parties in particular but also smaller less main stream parties are at risk of being hijacked by fringe groups trying to push agendas.
Other than push more confusion and misunderstanding and I don't see what good this motion does. It's grandstanding.

I would ask, ould anyone say that a Zionism that is hostile to the national ideal specifically and only of the Palestinians is racist?

You can't say no.

From a Palestinian perspective, whose rights have been erased entirely. Forget having a nation.

Yeh I think there is so much being lost in all this garbage that ultimately we need to be working towards an end to the suffering not creating more division, which this action does IMO

I believe this is what has happened here. The GP membership is north of 200k but this vote was taken by less than 2k members. So less than 1% of the membership. It is PR own goal plain and simple. The Israeli government can be easily criticised without wading into this minefield.

It is a minefield.
I believe Israel has a right exist.
I believe Palestine should also exist.
I condemn utterly the hamas attacks and the Israeli response. The same with settler violence and the missile attacks on Israel.
I cannot judge Israeli Jews or Palestinians on the acts of their governments anymore than I can judge Americans on the actions of Trump.
It's fine to criticise all of those governments and their actions, this goes beyond that and is helpful to no one.

When did the Green Party actually talk about and champion Green issues. They are so far from what they were 10 years ago

Fringe groups attach themselves to an issue that is difficult to argue with (in this case a healthier planet) and gain support by proxy.
Too many people use the protest vote without actually knowing what they are voting for.

Nailed it

It's a silly PR stunt, they were making good ground and starting to build up a decent amount of support (think they've been around 11-12%) and now it will put a lot of people of longer term, all it has resulted in is a few headlines. I think people forget it takes ages to build support but little time to lose it. I voted green last general election but wouldn't want to associate myself with some fringe protest even if it does only represent a small portion of the members. Polanski has also disappeared from view and barely mentioned it either.

Seems like a stunt to me

Yeah, might as well put a giant fly net across the country for all the good some false reassurance like that will do against modern drones. The best course is just not to make anyone want to fly drones at you, or at least have retaliatory deterent

Yep, naive it might be, but I always think the best case of defence is to not engage in situations that can inflame or activate action.

Spain keep reducing their budget and wont meet Nato targets, i dont think its its the crime everybody else seems to

Kemi Badenoch in her conference speech having a dig at Reform for their challenges as to who qualifies as being "English" - and gives examples of better days when one could not imagine the likes of Ian Wright or John Barnes facing such questions. Erm - I think they endured quite bit more than that! I mean if you don't know, it would take 2 seconds to google and find out. Who writes and checks these speeches?

They did.

But I think this country is more racist now than it was 20 years ago.
