Having 3 players in that list perhaps shows what is important in the way that De Zerbi wants us to play. Team's defensive games are becoming more and more man to man, so the onus is increasing on players able to beat their direct opponent one on one.

Think it's true, but we don't create enough isolations (yet) to take advantage of having players that can beat their man.

Too many times our players beat the first man but a 2nd/3rd player is covering, which means we aren't creating the space effectively.

During his press conference today De Zerbi said he views Savio as a right winger that can also play on the left. Says he likes his wingers to invert on to their strong foot.

It's a shame because that's not where he does his best work and our right is now overstocked with quality versus the left. Kudus and Savio for the right versus Tel for the left. 🤭

I think it will still be Kudus right (when fully fit) and Savio on the left as we don't have that many quality wingers that we can leave one of Kudus or Savio on the bench :D Kudus can still be the left footer cutting in from the right, and he can't play on the left....

I agree. RDZ is probably just trumping. Can't imagine a world where Savio and Kudus are both fit but one sits in the bench and Tel starts on the left. I might throw my shoe at him. 😅
 
Another who is showing promising signs. Talented. But needs time to play regularly and get going. I think he needs to show more willingness to shoot and be more destructive. Its good he has a right foot as well and often goes outside the man to keep him guessing. Just needs to work on getting shots away or arriving at the back post when the opposite winger has it.

Looks the part .. my previous statement applies

The system needs to create space for these guys to exploit, not get them the ball when 3 people are around them and hope for miracles

I think previously when RdZ was here teams allowed Brighton that space, to stay with at least
Once they realised how his teams play, they adjusted their set up to suit and beat his team
That issue is still there now with us in that managers know how we will try to play

I thought he was pretty good too, went both ways and is way quicker than I thought he was. Just needs to gain fitness, faded a lot in the 2nd half.
 
If we are going to expect him to suddenly just start shooting it into the top corner he will end up disappointing. That's just not his play style. He wants to run, beat his man, then either cross it in or play into a team mate for a give and go. Doing that on the right is limiting because he's on his weaker sides and his passing has fewer angles and naturally being on the wrong side the strongest option is to shoot, something he is specifically weak at.

Play him on the left and suddenly he can beat his man on the inside or outside and will play into the supporting attackers for give and goes and as he shooting is actually better going from left to right than it is the opposite.

I know RDZ says he likes his wingers cutting in and shooting but that's just not Savio's game. He's winger, not a striker on the wing. He is going to inevitably disappoint if we keep playing him this way.

I would think his is quite normal in the PL in general.
On any given Saturday, teams playing each other will have done their due diligence, prep, and homework on the opponent...'to see how they play'...whether that be via data, game film, scouting, etc. I am unsure to what extent this dynamic would somehow only apply to RDZ uniquely.

They aren't great but even in that short package he is getting the ball into the box between the 6 yd and penalty spot but there is no one in that traditional area challenging for it.

Always used to be the key zone for pull back or crossing. Perhaps tactics have changed?
