We also haven't attempted to penny pinch - a long standing criticism.
Could the fee have been 10-15m lower if the Gakpo and Ndiaye moves weren't known about? Probably. But they were, and time was of the essence.
If there is a political situation come purchase time to negotiate the fee down, great!
For right now we have a blank canvas, at little cost, a body instead of a gap, and a known and correct price if we want to purchase.
We may not need to purchase come next summer - maybe Tel or Odobert suddenly fill the hole? Maybe LWB bursts into the scene?
Or maybe we have a £75m player, playing well, integrated into the squad, that we get to buy for £75m.
It's a deal set at the right level for all parties.
