Sandro Tonali Official

I think it’s ok to say he has been terrible in his first two game … because he has.

Doesn’t mean anyone is writing him off.

It’s ok to say what you want. I think it’s pointless offering any sort of critique at this point.

I don't think the setup is especially helping him. He'd be better in a double pivot with Fernandes in a 4-2-3-1. But as we've no #10 at the moment, this unbalanced 4-3-3 with Fernandes being further forward is not getting the best out of either of them

he is a poor professional. no wordd cup and yet so unfit.

yes he wanted to leave Saudi Sportswashing Machine and get the most for them - no problem and he's done that.

but to not be fit and ready for the season, regardless the price tag, is inexcusable.

I’m sure he’ll be bossing midfield like Gallagher once he’s match sharp…

How standards at the club have plummeted since Kane and Sonny left eh 📉

Personally I think we look to be playing what is a complex system OR at least trying too. A system which will seemingly take time for all to learn.
And there is some signs of some greens shoots in terms of that.

However, two things really worry me, confidence and lack of confidence tend to be multipliers and can spiral either way depending on results… and right now results are only going one way.

Secondly I don’t have much confidence with our defence and goalkeeper especially if we sell Danso who despite his limitations is our best pure defender

I'm confused on Tonali. No world cup, full pre-season and yet his manager keeps telling us he's not in the right physical condition yet.

It's making no sense

Agreed. Especially when I thought his stamina was supposed to be one of his biggest strengths. Weird.

Also I was at the game yesterday and didn’t like how passive he was at trying to make himself available for the pass. And looking at his passing statistics at Saudi Sportswashing Machine, looks like that’s his nature.

Still, early days, and hopefully his other strengths will reveal themselves when he’s fully up to speed.

This is what frustrates me the most as well. You can add the likes of Solanke, Udogie to that, along with the World Cup players seemingly further behind schedule than their equivalents at other clubs.

I’ve no doubt we’ll look decent this season, far too many good players and manager not to, but feel we’ve wasted August. I hope there is a review into how the club got the conditioning so wrong in pre season. This is nothing to do with needing to gel when your managing minutes of players already. RDZ has said twice already that we’re not physically ready. I just find it unacceptable tbh.

Hi passing was awful, he messed up multiple times
Like 50% success rate, hardly improved from pre season and putting other players into difficult situations too.

Hard watch given that I know he can be so much more fitter and stronger.

Truly unprofessional, hope it's a one off (e.g. moving family, first kid) . Deserves all the negative attention he is getting on social media right now.

Indeed.
Fernandes and him together deeper will be excellent.

To be unfit 2 games into the season with no world cup is a dereliction of duty and he should be read the riot act. Half the squad look gassed out but I don't get how Tonali can be unfit, he didn't have any injuries pre season - should be fresh and leading the midfield now.

I'm surprised some of his simple passing is so off. I'm not expecting Xavi Alonso stuff...but c'mon

I'm imagining he's a cog in a machine type player. He had the midfield support at Saudi Sportswashing Machine with Guimares and JoeLinton taking on other skill sets and I think he'll get that here once everyone is settled.

I was hoping he'd be a player that would really impose himself and standout in games (I think Bentancur is more likely to be that tbh) but maybe that's a misjudgement on my part?

Pal who is a Toon season ticket holder is not surprised; said there was a massive drop off in Tonali’s performance anytime he didn’t have Bruno G alongside him; that he was a player for them who either performed well or terribly (no middle ground); and that he was prone to sulking/letting his head drop.

On his day brilliant, but don’t expect those days to come around too often in a season, according to him.

I would take that with a massive pinch of salt.
