***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Saturday August 29th, 5.30pm, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium***

The fans though, in the main, will give anyone time when they can see what is meant to happen
When we saw the line up last week it was a bit meh… ok let’s see
Seeing the line up today ig was more like how the hell are we even lining up
Still not sure having watched it
that’s not a good look imo and quickly stains patience of paying fans
I think it kind of worked? We were decent first half. I think the attackers are having their minutes managed and I grudgingly accept that.

VAR should be able to give a yellow for this. Or a post match one game ban.

Can't comment on the rest of the game as I've only just seen the MOTD highlights, but doesn't look great...Points, goals, and or clean sheets would be great but it's early days of course. Form seems to be worse after a pre season and big investment but it's only 6 points dropped so far, are we calling this a transitional season yet?
In the World Cup it was Varred right? That was how they got up the pitch which led to the spell that led to the goal.

Too many teams are playing angeball I feel and we will see what happens after Christmas. Especially Saudi Sportswashing Machine who has a new caich. Remember man u's late charge last season was sufficient for Champions League.

I am still up for top 6,if we can significantly avoid injury issues to top players (goes without saying for any team)

It'd pretty sad watching us these days. Don't think we were that bad yesterday, we're just fragile in defence. We were the better team before they scored and moved the ball pretty well up the pitch. We were kind of lucky Elanga's corners were so brick though. If they had someone like Hall delivering from the right we probs would have conceded earlier.

Think once Marmoush and Savio and Kudus are more integrated we'll be okay but I'd say Top 10 is about where we'll be.

Problem then is how frustrated de Zerbi will be, we need him sticking around for a second full season.

The stadium is far from being a fortress, the fans are scarred from seeing so many losses. Will take ages to improve that.

Admire you're optimism mate.

We have now lost more games at Tottenham Hotspur stadium than Arse have at the death star since they moved there 20 years ago!

But at least we won the transfer window this summer!
It's a fudging travesty of a stat that is. Thing is, you half expect to be brick when you first move into a stadium as everyone gets used to it but we didn't have a particularly bad start there. The last two seasons have been so far beyond how bad I ever thought we could be at home.

We had a good start
Better than expected by some way

My take is that we were fine in the first half, we needed to be proactive and make a change - Tel anyone? - before they scored in the second as it was clear we’d lost control. I was crying out for it from where I was standing to lift the crowd and regain the momentum we lost from the break. Two absolutely terrible goals to concede.

We need any kind of win next week or the media will be billing this as a full on crisis, which could get into the players’ heads quickly.

I agree with most of this. I think Brentford will surprise alot of teams, well organised physical team. Playing Poocastle this early in the season has more unknowns than if Howe were still in charge. We should still have done better, and i don't want to give too many excuses to the players/manager, we just need to be patient (although decision to sell Spence looks crazy looking at yesterday's team).

We never look solid either. So if we almost always concede, we never really look like scoring, and we can’t buy a bloody win at home, where exactly are the points supposed to come from?

Jonathan Liew's piece in today's Guardian site is a good one.

"Since beating Aston Villa 4-1 in late 2024, . There is something innate and endemic here, a chronic case of Long Tottenham for which – despite the new coach, the new leadership structure and more than a third of a billion pounds in transfer fees – there remains no proven cure."

"Since beating Aston Villa 4-1 in late 2024, Tottenham have gone behind 44 times in all competitions and come back to win precisely zero of them. Aston Villa have as many victories at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium n the last twelve months (2) as Tottenham!

After conceding yes.
VDV isn't captain material, never see him encouraging the others, geeing them up, just goes into his shell.

A really weird choice imo. He struggled to cope last seas when the chips were really down but now he’s our captain…?
