The board careBro who cares whether the fans accept it in the moment. Get the right players in and that love will very quickly transfer over to the new guys. Fans are fudging fickle.
The fans didn't accept selling Berbatov, Levy still did it. The fans didn't accept selling Modric, Levy still did it. You know why, because he felt that was the best thing to do at that time. So please I don't buy this "the fans wouldn't accept it" nonsense when has that ever stopped them selling players when they felt they needed to?
So now when it might actually benefit us, they care what the fans think? GTFOH.

The board didn't care when they sold Bale, they didn't care when they sold Carrick etc etc fudging etc. No our fans were not understanding of any of those players leaving. You're lying to yourself if you're claiming that now.
The board do not care about what the fans think if it makes financial sense to make a deal and that's fine. I'm not even criticising that, I'm just not going accept the excuse that when it also made financial sense to move people on they were scared of the fan reaction, that never bothered them before or after.
By 17/18 we had significantly fallen away from challenging for titles, remember the whole no players brought in for 18 months? Guess what might have helped us not let the squad stagnate? Yep, that's it maybe try selling someone and reinvesting the money. Would we have failed at doing it? Maybe, but you I wouldn't criticise the attempt. Trying something is better than sitting on your hands and watching it all crumble around you and pretending that all of a sudden fan pressure makes a difference to their actions. GTFOH!

But the era you refer too, we were competing, genuinely
I mean it was the best we have been for the vast majority do current Spurs fans modern lives

We weren't finished building in that era, that's why we never actually won anything. We needed to continue building and if the money wasn't there to go out and directly add players then you need to be smart use your resources and assets to continue building to the top. Again I'll say it again and again why can other clubs do it, why was it impossible for us to do it?
The answer is it wasn't. We just didn't have the nous to work that way. We saw the Hitchens say "I hate the January window" he was out of his depth and wouldn't know how to operate at a high level.

They made statements at the beginning of the summer and we were all dubious. But there is no denying they were true to their word.
Ironically this would not have been possible without Levy's business acumen, but if he were still here he would not have spent this much money this window.

But what I'm suggesting wasn't financially irresponsible. I'm suggesting we sold to buy, that is the very opposite of irresponsible.

Some do, there are many more that can't and won't, more so than those that do, but we always compare ourselves to the bigger successful clubs (mostly whilst not giving DL any credit for raising that expectation)

If Daniel had viewed players the same way as real estate, we'd have won the league at least three times under him. His true passion -his sub-conscious drive- has always been business, and he was BRILLIANT at it for us. Seeing footballers in the same light -in the same metric of 'being the best'- was not in his DNA. He got us to a place where he could fulfill his business appetite with us being a top 4 club. I genuinely don't blame him anymore, it's simply who he is as a person.
Man U were massive when they had Martin Edwards and Kenyon after him. They were football animals first who happened to be great businessmen too. I think with Daniel, we had a great business animal who happened to really like football too.

Come on, different size clubs and ambitions. Levy spent his time here making us as big financially, only to get fudged over before he could play at being a football animal. Also, they lucked out having Fergie as manager.
