Djed Spence

Djed moves from one club close to my heart to another club close to my heart ... Dumfries has left Inter. Djed has an opportunity but does he have the heart?

I’m sorry to see him leave yet it seems like a bit of a sliding doors moment. Not sure if that’s the right analogy but it feels like he was on the brink of being brilliant for us but it didn’t quite click that way. Not sure I’m articulating it well but it’s another one that got away without us really knowing what might have been.

Inter pay 30m for Jones who can't get a game anywhere. And we got the same for a starting player. We sold him too cheap.
He featured in 34 games in the PL with 1,930 minutes and 9 Champions League whilst Spence features in 30 PL at just over 2,000 minutes in total. Quite a stretch to say Jones can't get a game anywhere....

And for a better and more successful team. We have to accept that our recent finishing positions will reflect on both the demand for any players we are selling and the prices teams are willing to pay.

Transfer fees are really based on projection, reputation and expectation. All three of these things have been affected by finishing 17th TWICE IN A ROW.

Do the price of player increase then when you are relegated? Because West Ham seem to have gotten top dollar

Explains why we only paid 99m euro for Fernandes from relegated Hammers. :mask:

Fernandes was seen as a shining light amongst a bag of brick. There was a demand for him, if not us then Manchester United would have signed him for good money. He also has that 3rd part of the equation; potential.

When you're talking about Spence, he is ultimately a defender so the price tends to be lower anyway and whilst he did well in the world cup he didn't have a season that was highly lauded by all. There was no real demand for him and with Romero, he had a bad season, 2 bad seasons if we are honest and even the season before that wasn't even good for him. His reputation has diminished since he's been here rather than increased.

Also West Ham getting relegated isn't unexpected so the view of their players is individually looked at. 17th for Spurs is a disaster so obviously something has gone very wrong and many will (rightly) look at the players involved.

Our players are not supposed to be finishing 17th whereas West Hams are.
