You don't need to go that far from Spurs to find true world class. A comparison with Ledley King is enough. A man who combined a quiet and controlled demeanour with insane ability to read a game. King is famed for that tackle back against Chelsea now, but going to ground was an exception for him, he so rarely had to make any last ditch interventions, because he read the game so exceptionally. He also did all of that with one knee and barely any training between games.
Baresi was fantastic, albeit surrounded by the best players in the world at the time as Italian football went through it's "premier league" era, but King was a complete one off, a freak whose injuries and desire to play only for us stunted his global reputation.
