Pre Season Thread

tel looks good and tricky; second half playing line breaking passes early shows even more potential he has
robertson willingness to overlap to the byline shows good partnership with tel - and adds an extra variation in attack

richy looks to have been asked to drop deeper and he's showing that he's no kane. lacks urgency getting back into the box.

bergvall appears very disciplined and quite press resistant and recycles the ball well

kinski is a baller - his long passes are a few levels above what vicario offers

van hecke mistake for the goal - commited too early and beaten by a simple 1-2

thats what i saw but yeah, it looked sunny and hot (shadows were very short) and its kangaroo fc, so make what you want of it

Lots of OTT reactions online from this game

- Lots of good possession from us
- Much better passing, lots of quick, on the floor stuff
- Low block and physicality of Getafe good workout for us.

To the players
- Tel double marked most of game, got better as game went on, could easily have had 2-3 assists, one pass to Tonali from wide was exquisite
- Gray did well, his defensive reading is top level, be interesting to see his development into a 6 eventually.
- Tonali does a lot of work off the ball
- Moore struggled out wide right
- Richi had a Richi game, probably did score (ball crossed line), did some decent stuff defensively, put in a few decent passes in-between his usual frustrating stuff (still had a better game than anything from Solanke in preseason, which is a worry)
- Bergvall usual, pushing forward looked good, caught out position and losing the ball a couple of times.
- Not a great game from Gallagher, but good goal

Think we need to keep in mind

- Not close to first 11, Fernandes, Porro, VDV, Udogie, Kudus in this side would have made huge difference.

That said, RW, RB (if we plan to sell Spence) and CF look quite light
There’s always massive over reactions from pre season games, it’s genuinely ridiculous. Half the squad are playing later or rested, not even including the 4 big hitters still injured…

We need a striker + WF, nothings changed from a couple of hours ago…

this team will not resemble the one that starts v Brentford.

The Juande Ramos pre season was so good from my memory and it went brick. None of the game will really tell you anything much imo.

I don't think to say it was a poor game is an overreaction, despite having lots of possession we did little with it, they were a difficult team to play against as they were prepared to put in some tough tackles and a lot of afters. I don't care about results in preseason games they are all about conditioning and trying things out. I did not find it entertaining or exciting, perhaps I'm looking at it simply as a game without trying to learn something about players or tactics.

It not being a great game isn't an overreaction, the takes were.

As I said, the possession and passing were a step above what we have seen in several seasons, front line with no creative 10 and Moore on right with Richi up front looked disjointed and failed to capitalize on some of our possession, passes and opportunities (is that really a surprise to anyone)

Obligatory post reminding everyone that preseason games mean next to nothing.

Teams made up of a mix of backups/youth/established players, against lower quality opponents with the same mix. Established players going through the motions, fringe players trying to impress.

It wasn’t even a real Pre season match FFS, it was a 70 minute game 😂 a glorified training excercise, it won’t register on official stats, pre season or otherwise.

Lots of fans getting their knickers in a twist over our performance These types of games are more about getting some fitness in the legs then anything else. Of course we want to win but thats not really the priorty.
Tbh I've only seen frustrations over the forward situation, which is understandable.

The vast majority has been positive.

Just as well that the game on at the moment between first team squad and U21's really is behind closed doors , it will be another training excercise to get fully fit and work on more of de Zerbi's tactics , will certainly be less physical than the early game.
