Pre Season Thread

Who was the last actual school aged kid to play regular minutes for Spurs?
Good question...not sure if Ally dingdong would be 'regular' minutes but he played a few times in '84 (UEFA Cup Final)...there hasn't been a Rooney story that I can recall...Ledley made his debut at 18, does he count? Good question...

Debut at 18 but not a regular until 21.

I’d just love us to have a Rooney, Owen type talent come through.

I hope we're looking at a no 10, bit worrying that Maddison hasn't played a single minute of pre-season. We're right to ease him back but Kulu, Simons and Odebert won't play until the new year.

Against Auckland we lined up in a 433 with a single pivot in Gray and two 8s in LWB amd Donley, I wonder if we could see more of that shape, I actually think it suits our players better, Fernandes, Tonali, Gary and Bentancur could all play either as a 6 or 8, Gallagher and Maddison and hopefully Bergvall are more suited to the 8 in that shape. If Sarr is not sold he fits into the first category too.

I think RDZ wants midfielders to move around and adapt as the game needs it. Rather than saying it is 1 pivot or 2 pivots, or telling players they are the 6/8/10, he wants to keep the other team guessing and he wants players to keep moving. So us watchers will declare it a 433 or 4231 or 4141 or whatever, but what RDZ wants is fluidity and accountability i.e. don't think you are a 10 and don't need to defend, and don't think you are a 6 and don't need to attack, all players need to do a bit of everything.

Adjusted so old-timers can pretend to understand all of this formation shyte.

Us old times don't need to understand it, we played in a time when it was a simple game, pass and move, get into space, now coaching makes it as difficult as possible to play.
Have a look at https://medium.com/@magedlebda/analysis-de-zerbi-3rd-man-run-concept-in-the-build-up-6a777d7260a9 . Mercifully, the concept is easy enough, even for an old-timer like me to understand, but when it comes to simple instructions, you can't beat "give & go"/"push & run" or "pass to a player wearing the same colour shirt as you". :)

Thanks, I don't read or listen to tactical stuff. I watched football as I enjoyed it and played for same reason. I believe coaches/managers are working on taking the joy out of the game. 20 years ago I watched 4/5 games a week at grounds or on TV now I only watch Spurs games and the academy matches are much better entertainment than anything I've seen on MotD.

Archie captain again. Bit of a statement from RDZ. (I may have missed something relating to this over the last few weeks as been away).
