Will Lankshear

I’m not sure the club has made an informed decision at all. Those running the club, I juts have very little faith in.

Of course no one knows what Lankshear will do in the game. But they will have watched him. The odds are stacked against any youth player trying to make it, so taking tens of millions is no necessarily a bad thing. And if we can't play him - we would hope for more proven players - then it can be the best for everyone. We have a 20% off clause if we want to buy him back.

By then Kane had already scored about half a dozen goals for us across 13/14 and the start of 14/15. Prem, Europa, the cups.

That goal v Villa was what catapulted him above the likes of Adebayor and Soldado into being our first-choice striker, but he had already reached the first team by then and was considered a decent backup.

Lankshear isn't at that stage yet. He's scored a few for Oxford and (iirc) one for us. That's not to say he won't make it at the top, but it's a little easy to say he's the next Kane just because of his age.

Yeah but Kane was given the opportunity to score those goals. lankshear had been given those opportunities.

I only saw highlights of his play for Oxford so I have no clue if he will make it or not. But he did show something in those highlights to suggest he has something about him.

The Club are truly awful at managing loan players and have a bad bad history of that
I’d be stunned if RDZ has even seen more than 3 hours of footage of him and if it’s the EPL footage that sky broadcast it’s bro worth watching because the quality was so bad (I watched about 15 games of his at Oxford and it was worse than mobile quality)
I assume and hope that RDZ has been promised a ready made striker and hence signed off the sale
I also think Lange hasn’t a clue on young players …. But that’s just my opinion

It’s not an exact science. But we can’t be too critical if the same team acquired these players and were selling at a profit.

What is possibly encouraging is a more dynamic approach to livening up the squad. Turning players who are making up the numbers into cash which hopefully can be spent on first team quality.

But we should keep buying the Lankshears and Bergvalls. The clubs approach went too far into youth prospects maybe (once injuries hit we lacked experienced leaders) but we’re doing okay from these signings.

Ironically it was the younger players who showed more leadership. And we’ve signed a number of mature leaders this summer to address.

What is becoming clear is that RDZ can only be informed on these decisions and is trusting guys like Andy Scoulding who believe they need to go. There is no way RDZ has spent anywhere near enough time with them to make these judgment calls. I've always said that Scoulding has a massive role at the club. It is his reputation on the line really on these calls. He probably rolls up to Lange so it's also his reputation at risk as well.

I also think we're now at that point of inflexion where net spending is done. No more cash is released until player sales happen.

Which is why the crowd who have no interest in selling players like Spence & Bergvall need to weigh up what that actually means. Because the market for Vicario, Romero, Sarr, Bentancur, Solomon & Richarlison seems dry.

So make it less dry
Offer incentives
Loan to buy for example
No good selling players we actually want
I have said for years no one is paying a big fee for Romero because despite the hype he doesn’t stay fit, it’s now very well paid here and has the suspension issue that hangs over him
Would a club pay £60m for that
He also has a limited market because he wants better and in reality the pool of better is small despite what our fans think
Inter sniffing but can’t afford one leg at our asking price
I suspected Barca will come in and so will Atletico with some random deals to try to make it work
Vic will go to Italy on a play now, big later
Sarr will go to Brentford or Fulham or a Dinair club
We don’t want to sell Bentacur from what I can tell

Loan to buy doesn’t help us because we cannot recognise that revenue until 2027/28.

Can’t recognise any sale if they don’t happen
So make it happen for next year but maybe in this seasons finances for us
Not all leagues are aligned on the dates
That’s why you need smart DOFs
We have brought this way before allowing clubs to buy too
It counts in this seasons numbers if it’s unconditional by the way

The point is we cannot reinvest significantly this summer in the front line, meaning spend another £150M+ without selling £100M+ of our own players. If there is not big matket for Romero, Vicario, Sarr, Richarlison that money had to come from somewhere and thats Bergvall and even Spence.

So be creative
That’s literally the job of the DOF
And I’m fine with selling Bergvall and Spence if that’s the call
But we can be smart
Loans with obligations count in this years numbers. How that affects our cash flow for buys is a different thing of course
And we as vans don’t know how much we can spend. It’s purely speculation

They wouldn’t only count when those obligations are met which is not a guarentee.

I thought any loan with a condition (e.g. number of matches played) doesn't count until that triggered clause is met. As an example, we can't recognise Dragusin's transfer fee yet but we still have a chance in the 26/27 accounts if he chalks up the games before next June.

It's less about the obligations when there are conditions, which there mostly seem to be in these loans.

I think we have to accept that Vicario and Romero can be sold to Italian clubs but not at the value we might want. In Romero's case, as long as we don't lose on the deal, I think he has to go (which is sad in itself) because of bridges burnt. Vic will leave I'm pretty sure, again though it might be break even with him. Sarr is confusing for sure. Richey? IF we're going to get a proper CF/striker, then I'd keep him and look to sell Solanke personally, however perhaps there is no taker for Solanke???
I still think we will need to move Bergvall on (again, I really like him, but...) and I just cannot imagine Spence being satisfied as a back-up on each side, albeit for us it would be excellent!
Who'd be a DoF at Surs LOL!

The issue with selling Solanke is that we could only book anything over £33M as a profit. And I would be suprised if we were to get more than £40M for him. We’re better off just selling Richy at a cut price.

While further sales would help increase our ability to spend wrt the rules it doesn't mean that we need it in order to continue to spend - we should have plenty of wiggle room already shouldn't we?

Yep so an unconditional loan does. Hence my comment a loan with an obligation to buy
Like we did with Romero
